Zu is one of the toughest non-boss monsters early on in the game. It's a lot easier when you're on your way to Mt. Ordeals when Cecil's a Dark Knight if you've equipped him with the Deathbringer as it will fall in one hit most of the time. However, it gets tougher on your way back because you don't have the ability to deal a one-hit KO to it due to the inability to use the Deathbringer. To beat it returning from Mt. Ordeals, just take advantage of its very weak defenses and heal whenever you need to.
