  AP Gaining Tricks

There are many tricks with which you can get AP quickly and effectively, below are two methods which work the best. To find out where to get the items please read the [Item FAQ] by AZn2th3N To do these methods you should have the following: Weapon & Armour Auto-Abilities
Overdrive-->AP Ability* - Instead of increasing the overdrive gauge you will instead get AP (requires x10 Doorways to Tomorrow) Double AP/ Triple AP - Doubles/Triples the amount of AP gained (requires 20 Megalixirs/50 Wings to Discovery respectively) Double Overdrive/ Triple Overdrive - Doubles/Triples the increase in overdrive gauge (requires 30 Underdog's secret/30 Winning Formulas respectively) Auto-Phoenix - Automatically use a phoenix down when an ally is killed (requires 30 Mega-Phoenix's)
Auto abilities with a * next to them are a Must, without them the tricks will not work Overdrive modes
Stoic - Overdrive Gauge increases when you suffer from damage (default) Comrade - Overdrive Gauge increases when your team allies suffer from damage (Certain amount of damage to allies, click here for full [Requirements])
Items
Phoenix Downs - Although they may not actually be necessary as life can work just as well, its best to have as many Phoenix downs as possible
Misc
Don Tonberry unlocked - One of area conquest creatures found in the [Monster Arena] (requires you captures all fiends in the Cavern of Stolen Fayth) Cactuar King unlocked - One of area conquest creatures found in the [Monster Arena] (requires you captures all fiends in the Thunder Plains) 1000+ Kills - this is needed for the Don Tonberry method, however it is not essential
You must have unlocked one or the other for the tricks to work.

DON TONBERRY METHOD

Select to fight against the Don Tonberry, and then attack it. This will result in it retaliating with Karma which will deal damage depending on how many fiends that character had killed x100. If you have set the overdrive mode to Comrade then two characters will gain AP for the attack as instead of your overdrive gauges charging you will gain AP. After the attack revive the fallen character and then repeat until the hearts desire or until it is defeated (or you run out of Phoenix Downs) Please note for this method you MUST have Overdrive-->AP ability and it is highly recommended that you have Auto-Phoenix and a huge supply of Phoenix Downs. Its also better to use Comrade mode on the characters with less Kills and stoic on the one with the most kills. However if all your characters have fairly high amount of kills its a good idea to use Comrade for all characters. After you finish you will gain an absurd amount of AP.

CACTUAR KING METHOD

Select to fight against the Cactuar King, and then attack it. It will then retaliate with either 10,000 Needles or 99,999 Needles. Revive your characters when needed and keep attacking. When it attacks it will attack with either one of the two moves resulting in even more AP. Remember to have set the overdrive mode to Comrade for all your characters. Please note for this method you MUST have Overdrive-->AP ability and it is highly recommended that you have Auto-Phoenix and a huge supply of Phoenix Downs. Life will also do just as well, however it will waste a turn. Again after you finish you will gain an absurd amount of AP.

  Blitzball

Blitzball...the favourite Pastime of all of Spira...Blitzball is the only game worth thinking about in Spira. The people of Spira can breathe underwater, and a Blitzball match takes place in a huge dome filled with water. there are two teams of six, two goals and one Blitzballs. There are no rules, but everything is based in numbers. As with fighting your players stats will only go up by taking part in matches. Experience Points are earned for most if not every move that your character will do during the match. The controls are: Analogue Stick - Move player about X - Make a selection O - Cancel a selection [] - Bring up the offence menu Tri - Bring up the defence menu For an in-depth look into blitzball check out Krunal's [Blitzball FAQ] The aim in Blitzball like in all major sports is to score more goals than the opposition, the time limit is 10 minutes, with each half being 5 minutes long, and any changes can only occur during the half-time. Players are awarded experience points for every move they successfully perform:

From the table you can clearly see that shots are a great way to earn EXP especially special ones that Wakka and Tidus can learn. The best trick to do is pass between your characters during the first half as this will increase their levels for sure (they will get around 120 points if using a level 3 pass). Each player can learn techniques by marking other characters and hoping that the opponent will use the ability When they do use it you will be able to learn it by pressing X at the correct time. During the time that they carry out the technique a little flashing 'Tech Copy' sign will come on the bottom left hand corner of the screen, this will allow you to copy the technique, its said that you have to press X when its a certain colour, however after much experimenting it can be said that you have to press it during a certain part of the animation. The part varies for each technique as does the animation, however here's a full techlist followed by some tips on when to press the X button when trying to learn certain techs:

Anti-Techs - For any anti-techs (level 1 or level 2 such as Anti-Venom and Anti Drain) you should press X just as the Tech copy bit is about to disappear Drain Tackles - For all drain tackles the techcopy bit is only there for approximately 1 second so as soon as you see it press X Grip Gloves - You should press X when the techcopy sign is white Invisible Shot - Press it JUST as soon as the ball is released, it may be easier for you to win this in a tournament as it requires impeccable timing Sphere Shot - You must press X just as the ball is kicked, but be careful not to do it before as it wont work unless you press it AFTER the ball has made contact with the players shoes Every character has a particular stats which they can raise by levelling up, there are 8 different stats:
HP - Health, this reduces as you have the blitzball in your possession and as you use techs SP - Speed, this determines how fast the character can move. This cannot be changed. EN - Endurance, How much consecutive damage the character can withstand AT - Attack, how much damage the player can cause (the actual damage can be anywhere around 50% to 150%) PA - Pass, the distance the player can throw the ball, it is reduced as the opponent blocks the pass and over distance BL - Block, the amount that a player can block a pass or shot by SH - Shot, the power and distance that players can shoot the ball with, it is reduced as the opponent blocks the shot and over distance CA - Catch, the power which the player can catch a shot with
In total there are around 60 recruitable players found all around spira. To recruit a player you must go up to them and press [], if they arn't part of a team already, you will be given the option to recruit them (sign them up for up to 99 games, if you have the money that is). Click on the link to the FAQ above to see the locations of each and every blitzball players along with the level 99 stats of each character. To get you started heres tips for the first blitzball match of the game, which is verses the Luca Goers: -For the whole of the first half do not aim to score, but just keep passing between each of your players. This will get your experiance up for the next half -When the second half begins equip Tidus with the Jecht Shot if available, if not then the Sphere shot will do -Equip the other characters with as many techs as possible -Try to score one goal before the 3 minutes mark when Wakka comes in, after scoring just try to keep passing between your characters so your players gain experiance and so the Luca Goers can't score. -As soon as Wakka comes in, try and score another goal and return to passing between your players

  Butterfly Catching

The butterfly catching mini-game can be played as many times as you desire, however prizes are a one time thing. The mini-game can be played 3 times with different prizes, the first time is the first time you go to Macalania forest before you defeat Spherimorph, the second time you can play it after defeating Spherimorph. After you get the Airship you can return here and play it again, you can also get Kimahri's Sigil. If you miss playing it one of these times then you wont get the prize for that version. On the Maps below the red dots represent the red butterflies which you must avoid, going through one of these will start a battle and will also take some time of the clock. The blue dots are the butterflies which you must try and get, get through all of these within the time limit and the treasure chest will appear (the yellow circle with a star in the middle). The first two versions are similar and much easier:

The map on the left is the central forest and the map on the right is the northern most forest. Click on the maps to view an enlarged version. The prizes for completing are as follows:
First version - completing first map: MP Sphere x1 First version - completing second maps: Ether x1 Second version - completing first map: Mega Elixir x2 Second version - completing second maps: Elixir x2
The third version is harder to complete and has more red butterflies which you must avoid.

The prizes for completing are as follows:
Third version - completing one map: Teleport Sphere x1 Third version - completing both maps: Kimahri's Saturn Sigil

  Cactuar Village

The Cactuar Village side quest allows you to get Rikku's sigil and also some treasures. The aim of this side quest is to find each cactuar and then play a sub-mini game. You will have to reach the Cactuar without it looking and before the timer runs out. You will then have to battle it, (use Wakka as he has more accuracy). Doing so will get you a named sphere, if it sees you or you run out of time you will get a "Sphere del Perdedor" (loser sphere). Getting more named spheres will get you better prizes, however it isn't necessary for you to get the named spheres. Their are 10 Cactuars in all and you need to find them one by one. To initiate the mini-game go to the fourth area and examine the Cactuar glyph and you will be given a clue to where the cactuar is. Sanubia Desert is split into 4 different screens:
First Screen - This is the Oasis area where the first save point is located. You appear here if traveling by airship. Second Screen - The winding path where the save point is located inside a tent. Third Screen - The huge open area with the ruins to the northwest and the save point next to the large Al Bhed sign in the middle. Fourth Screen - The area before Home, containing the Cactuar Glyth and the sandstorm area.
A map of Bikenel Island by ABlaster can be found here: [Bikenel Island] Here is a list of the cactuars that you must find and their locations. You must find them in this order and once you find one, you have to return to the cactuar glyth for the next one to appear.
Tomay - First Screen, to the right of the save point Rovivea - Second Screen, running around in the north-western alcove Chava - Fourth Screen, hiding behind the Al Bhed 20% sign; examine the sign to find him Alek & Aloja - Third Screen, running back and forth in the ruins in the north-western part Vachella - Second Screen, hiding behind the save point inside the tent; examine the save point to find him Robeya - Third Screen, hiding in a treasure chest in the south-western corner Isrra - Fourth Screen, running around inside an antlion pit (if he's not their, leave the screen and return and he should appear) Elio - First Screen, at the oasis, then beams up to your airship and can be found on the roof where you went to fight against Evrae Flaile - Fourth Screen, appears automatically after bringing the rest of the green Cactuar spheres to the glyph
After getting all 10 cactuars the sandstorm will dissipate and you can go into the area that the sandstorm was protecting. Inside you will find two chests, the first will contain Rikku's Sigil and the second will contain an item depending on how many named spheres you braught back:

  Chocobo Racing

The chocobo racing is located in Remiem Temple. To get to the Remiem Temple you must first train a chocobo and then ride it to the southern part of the calm lands (where the entrance to Macalania Forest is). You will see a yellow feather on the ground, just press the X button and the chocobo will jump down. The entrance is through the cave type area on the right hand side. Go through it and you will be in the Remiem Temple Area. You can do one of two things here, battle [Belgemine's Aeons] (if you haven't already sent her) and race against the Champion Chocobo. To start the chocobo race you need to go up to the champion chocobo on the right hand side of the temple and challenge it. You will then start the race. The aim is to get to the middle before the other chocobo gets their getting as many treasure chests as possible. The more treasure chests you open the better the prizes you get are. You must also avoid hitting any of the poles or you loose the race. Click on the map below to view a larger version of the chocobo racing area. The lines shows the recommended route.

  Chocobo Training

Located in the Calm Lands is a chocobo trainer, and he will let you train on the chocobo's. The chocobo trainer, if you come into the calm lands from the Macalania Forest entrance, will be in the North-west area, if you come via the Airship he will be directly south of the shops. Just talk to him to initiate one of the four training exercises. You must beat the record before the next one is unlocked. The four exercises that you will be able to do are:

Wobbly Chocobo

The aim of this exercise is to guide the chocobo to the finish line, however you must beware, the chocobo is somewhat unable to walk in a straight line. Beat the time of 12.8 seconds to unlock the next exercise. You can also travel by chocobo in the calm lands by talking to the trainer at anytime after completing this training exercise.

Dodger Chocobo

The chocobo now goes in the direction that you tell it to, however you must now dodge blitzball that come flying out of nowhere which are aimed towards you. Getting hit by the blitzball will result in a penalty of 3 seconds. Beat the record to unlock the next exercise.

Hyper Dodger Chocobo

This is the same as Dodger Chocobo exercise, however this time you will be bombarded with Blitzballs and birds, both of which you must avoid and get to the finish line and to top it all off you must beat his record. Watch out as the blitzball hits the ground it will split into pieces which may hit you as they fly off to the side.

Catcher Chocobo

This is more of a race than a training exercise, and you will need to do it to get Tidus's Sigil and Celestial Weapon. What you must do is race against the trainer in an attempt to reach the finish line. The catch is that there are birds that come flying into you (generally 3 birds will fly into you, and then another 3 will fly into the trainer then 3 birds will fly back at you and so on) which immobilise you for 1.5 seconds. There are also balloons which you must get, however the trainer is also able to get them so you must try to stay ahead. You cant control the speed of the chocobo just the direction (left and right). Now for the biggest catch, even if you beat the trainer in reaching the finishing line, to actually win you have to take into account how many Balloons you have collected and how many birds you were hit by. Each bird that you hit will increase your overall time, where as each balloon that you collect will deduct the total time by 3 seconds. You will need a time of better than 0.00 seconds to get Tidus's Sigil.

  Thunder Plains

The lightning dodging side quest is necessary to get Lulu's celestial weapon powered up fully and it also gets you some good items. Dodging is not so easy and isn't too hard, what you must do is press the X button when there's a flash, this will make you dodge the bolt. Square have been smart so it isn't possible for you to use a Turbo Controller that will keep tapping the X button for you, doing so will get you shocked even more quickly. It is also recommended that you have No Encounter armour equipped as battles will make this side quest even harder. The amount of lightning bolts dodged consecutively will be reset by one of these three things: You get hit by lightning, You enter/leave the screen (even if you are still in the thunderplains), you save the game. This means that you must take about 30-40 minutes of your time to do this side-quest. Here is a map showing the best places to dodge the lightning bolts. The best place to dodge lightning is where there are three bolt signs as the thunder is more frequent in these areas.

The left map is the Southern part of the thunderplains, whereas the right map is the northern part of the thunderplains. To get the prizes you must go into the Inn located in between the two screens (the left exit at the top on the left hand map) and check the chest which is located directly outside it.
