Final Fantasy

MUSIC

As in all Final Fantasy games, the in game music is well crafted and adds perfectly to the mood of the game. FFVIII was the first FF game to feature songs with lyrics rather than just instrumentals, as well as the first Final Fantasy game to include music with a full choral accompaniment (Liberi Fatali).

Eyes On Me (needs to be ported to the wiki!)
Composed by Nobuo Uematsu, with lyrics by Kako Someya. Performed by Faye Wong.
Whenever sang my songs, On the stage, on my own... Whenever said my words, Wishing they, would be heard. I saw, you smiling at me... Was it real or just my fantasy? You'd always be there in the corner, Of this tiny little bar... My last night here for you... Same old songs, just once more. My last night here with you? Maybe yes, maybe no. I kind of liked it your way, How you shyly placed your eyes on me... Oh, did you ever know, That I had mine on you? Darling, so there you are, With that look on your face. As if you're never hurt, As if you're never down, Shall I be the one for you? Who pinches you softly but sure... If frown is shown then I will know that you are no dreamer. So let me come to you... Close as I want to be... Close enough for me, To feel your heart beating fast. And stay there as I whisper, How I loved your peaceful eyes on me... Did you ever know, That I had mine on you? Darling, so share with me, Your love, if you have enough, Your tears, if your're holding back, Or pain, if that's what it is. How can I let you know, I'm more than the dress and the voice? Just reach beyond them... You will know that you're not dreaming. Darling, so there you are, With that look on your face.... As if you're never hurt, As if you're never down, Shall I be the one for you, Who pinches you softly but sure? If frown is shown then, I will know that you are no dreamer.

Liberi Fatali (needs to be ported to the wiki!)
Composed by Nobuo Uematsu, arranged by Shiro Hamaguchi, and written by Kazushige Nojima and Taro Yamashita, "Liberi Fatali" is the Latin choral opening to the game. It is notable for being fully orchestrated, unusual for game music at the time, and the first time Square had done such a thing. Liberi Fatali translates to "Fated Children." The line 'Fithos lusec wecos vinosec' is not lactually, latin, being an anagram of two phrases: "succession of witches" and "love."
Fithos lusec wecos vinosec Fithos lusec wecos vinosec Fithos lusec wecos vinosec Excitate vos e somno, liberi mei Cunae sunt non Excitate vos e somno, liberi fatali Somnus est non Surgite! Invenite! Veni hortum veritatis Horti verna veritatis Ardente veritate Urite mala mundi Ardente veritate Incendite tenebras mundi Valete, liberi Diebus fatalibus Fithos lusec wecos vinosec Fithos lusec wecos vinosec Fithos lusec wecos vinosec Fithos lusec wecos vinosec
There is no official translation to this song. However, the following is considered to be the most accurate.
Fithos lusec wecos vinosec Fithos lusec wecos vinosec Fithos lusec wecos vinosec Wake from your sleep, my children The childhood years are gone Wake from your sleep, fated children Your rest is gone Arise! Search! Discover the true Garden The garden of vernal truth Fiery truth Burn the evil of the world Fiery truth Light the darkness of the world Prevail, children In the fated days Fithos lusec wecos vinosec Fithos lusec wecos vinosec Fithos lusec wecos vinosec Fithos lusec wecos vinosec
The line Veni hortum veritatis is often translated "discover the truth of the Garden," which makes sense within the context of the game. However, the Latin lyrics actually say "discover the garden of truth" / "discover the true garden." Also, although the word "Cunae" means "Nest for young birds, "Cunae sunt non" is usually translated as "The childhood years are gone", or "Your cradles are gone".
