History

Story behind FF7

If you haven't played the game, but still want to know what's going on without buying it, this is the right place to come. This is a FULL SPOILER explanation of what takes place in the game.
Though I can't urge you enough to play the game instead of reading this. This is such a complex story, which can only be enjoyed in full by playing the game itself, not to mention all the loose ends which forces you to speculate to try and link it all together, so it's best played least 2 times before you can truly understand it, so buy it instead! Even though I spent quite a few hours to sum it all up, I would rather have you play the game. ; )

Where you see the * , there is a deeper explanation of what the meaning of that word, and I recommend you read about it since I wont explain the meaning of it any other place during the following text.

All takes place when a train stops in Sector 1 in Midgar*. Barret and 3 other members of the rebel Group Avalanche*, jumps out to head for the Shinra* Mako* reactor* to blow it up. Cloud was hired by Barret to assist them in their challenging task.
Cloud was a former 1st Class SOLDIER* is pretty callous about it. He has no opinion of it, and only doing it for money, and maybe a little part of him does it as a favour for his childhood friend Tifa.

Barret and Cloud succeeded this task, they blew up the reactor, stopping it from pumping more energy from the planet (aka lifestream*), and heads back to their secret lair 7th heaven. On their way back, one of the other members of the group explains to Cloud how restricted, and controlled the people of Midgar is, to that extent that there is a id check while traveling on the train.

When they get back to their lair, Barrent and Cloud bump heads through out the time until the next mission. Tifa who's there reminds Cloud of a important childhood memory that he have seemed to forgotten, but remembers it well when he's reminded of their promise*.

Next day they all including Tifa head out to blow up yet another reactor but things go wrong and Cloud is separated from the others when the reactor explodes.
Cloud f alls from a great height, and crashes through a church roof, and falls in one of 2 only flowerbeds in the whole city.
There he happen to met Aeris who (may) sold him a flower earlier in the game. She get's him back on his feet. cloud seems anxious to get back to Tifa, but Aeris gets him to be her bodyguard. a few guys of the Turks* show up who only end up chasing after them.
Aeris explains to Cloud that she is wanted by Shinra so that she could b recruited as a Turk, that's why they were after her.

Cloud helps Aeris home, here he tries to leave her middle of the night so that he wouldn't drag her into trouble, and wouldn't have someone to slow him down. Aeris ends up with Cloud. Cloud isn't familiar with Midgar, so she convinced him that he needed her to show him the way to Tifa's 7th Heaven.

Aeris tells him about a boyfriend she had who had the same glow in the eyes as Cloud, (sign that they are showered with Mako) and tries to get info if he's involved with Tifa. Before he get to answer, Tifa is shown passing them in a cart pulled by a Chocobo*, and is quickly gone again. Cloud hurries after the cart with Aeris right behind him.

Don Corneo* is a man who's after a bride. he get 3 women each night to his place, where he pick's one at the time to spend the night with him (to put it nicely...), And this night, Tifa was one of them. she wanted to get information from him since h has a close link to Shinra and their ploy's.
But so that Cloud would be able to rescue Tifa the most safe way, he dressed up as a woman, and with Aeris, the Don had 3 women for the night, and that would make Tifa get to him, and get information from him.
They of course manage to get information about what Shinra's next move was to try and stop the rebel group, They were to blow up a plate that was hanging over sector 6 (where 7th heaven is) since it was said that the HQ of the rebel group was in that area, so they would kill everyone who lived there, just to get rid of AVELANCHE.
Sadly, they managed to blow up the plate, crushing everyone who was in that sector. Cloud and the gang was sadly unable to stop the bomb, and was powerless to do anything to stop it.
everyone from AVALANCE died (beside Tifa Barrent Cloud and Aeris) including everyone who lived in that sector and Aeris was kidnapped by the Turks.
Filled with rage hate and lust for revenge, Barret decided that they needed to infiltrate the Shinra HQ. Cloud, lead by quilt (since he was suppose to be Aeris's bodyguard) he followed Barret to get Aeris back and hopefully get some information while they were there.

Cloud and the gang managed to listen in on a big meeting with only the high ranking people of Shinra only attended. Hojo* told them about that the Ancient* subject (Aeris) couldn't live long enough to complete their research, to discover the link to the promised land*, so that he would need to breed her with a animal that could live long enough to research the knowledge of the Ancients.

Cloud and the gang knew right away that it was Aeris they talked about, and headed for where she was. On their way there, Cloud passed a tank where he took a peek inside.
There was a headless Jenova*. Cloud fell over with shock and after some thinking continued on their way to get Aeris. Not much time passed before they were at the "cage" trying o get Aeris out, when they were interrupted by Hojo.
Hojo let the animal (which was to breed with Aeris) into the cage with her, where he was real aggressive. The cage door went open, and the animal attacked Hojo with no hesitation.
Hojo managed to escape, and the animal apologized for his aggressive behaviour, and called himself for Red XIII*. He joined the crew so that e might find his way back home to his tribe.

The gang was later captured and when they woke up later in their cell, Cloud was first to discover that the doors were opined, and that the guards was slit open and dead.
the gang headed up to the presidents office in hope to scare him straight so that he would take care of the world, and go back to coal power instead of using Mako.
But on their way, they found Jenova was gone, and when they got to the President's office, they found him dead with a massive sword sticking out of his back.
One of the executives came out of hiding, and explained that Sephiroth killed him. Cloud got a chill down his spine to figure out that he was still alive.
The President son came, and was automatically the new president of Shinra. Cloud decided to take him on while the others could escape.
After a brief one on one battle with Rufus* (the new president) Cloud jumps on a motorcycle while the others get on a truck. Cloud drives through the Shinra building, leading the way out a window which got them on the highway out of Midgar.

When they got at the edge of Midgar, they decided not to return back since it was to dangerous for them, and the innocent people who lived there. Cloud was determined to hunt down Sephiroth. Barret knew that defeating Sephiroth was the path to save the world from his terror, so he was in. Aeris and Tifa wanted to follow Cloud, and Red came along in hope that they would pass his home one day. But sadly for Barret, the Girls decided that Cloud was the best leader in this new quest.
The crew headed of the nearest town called Kalm to talk about Sephiroth.
Here Cloud explained his relationship about him.
5 years ago, the Wutai* war was, Cloud and Sephiroth and a few Soldiers took a ride to his (and Tifa's) hometown Nibleheim, a remote mountain village. Here they were to check on a reactor which seem to create monsters which ran rampage in the the town. Sephiroth and Cloud, with Tifa as a tour guide to the reactor. After a while, when they got there. Cloud and Sephiroth went inside to inspect the reactor where they saw small tanks with monsters in it, linked to a main tank centre of the room. Sephiroth saw a chamber was named "Jenova".
Sephiroth went into a indescribable rage, explaining to Cloud that Jenova was his mother, which meant that the monsters there was created by Jenova, meaning that he was a monster.
Sephiroth left the reactor to do research in a nearby lab in town. Where he read all about Jenova. When he was satisfied with the information, He explained to Cloud that he was a being beyond his and all "pitiful" humans, that humans was trying to stop his mother from getting the planet, Sephiroth would have none of it, so filled with rage and eagerness, he engulfed the town in flames and headed for the reactor to get his mother. Cloud found his mother dead in this house, and the whole town swimming in flames, so Cloud, filled with hate ran after Sephiroth to stop him.

Just to interrupt your reading, after this next part, there is no turning back, so in other words, please get the game and experience the next part as it was meant to. You're missing out on so much of the mood if you read on. I said my part, so if you absolutely have no intention of buying the game, even though how much I beg you to (after all you read this much already) stop reading and get it (since the next part is one of the highest peek of the game) But sadly I can't force you to stop reading -_-

When he came to the reactor. He went after Sepiroth who entered the chamber where Jenova was. He took his sword and cut of Jenova's head, and headed out, ingoing Cloud whimpers.
Cloud ran after him, when Sephiroth took his blade with lightning speed, and cut into Cloud's stomach. They were both standing on a bridge, a river of Mako was below them, so Cloud grabbed his blade, lifting the sword and Shephiroth holding on tight in hope to keep control over his sword. Cloud then managed to lift both Sephiroth and the sword, throwing him over the bridge, where Sephiroth fell into the Lifestream.

After Cloud told this story. Tifa remained silent. She asked him a bit about it, questioning his story, but quickly changed the subject, trying to avoid a conflict which might result in that Cloud would disappear again from her.

Cloud and the crew headed on. They came to a shipping town called Junion. They herd that Sephiroth was on his way over the sea. Cloud kept hearing voices when he either was asleep or "fainted" all of a sudden. The voice kept questioning him, contradicting him on several things, like one thing was "Why didn't you meet up with Tifa 5 years ago, it's been 2 years since you last saw each other". When Cloud woke up from that night of sleep, he went to Tifa, asking her just that. She delectably managed to change the subject, and got Cloud thinking about Sephiroth again. Following in his footsteps, they managed to encounter him on the ship over the sea. Sephiroth didn't remember Cloud, and as quick as he appeared, he disappeared flying away through the roof, leaving a limb of Jenova, to fight Cloud.

When they got over the Sea in a small beach town called Costa Del Sol, Cloud met Hojo on the beach. Cloud confronted Hojo in hope to get information out of him. Hojo had left Shinra, so h didn't know what they were up to, but he kept asking how his failed experiment was coming along (meaning Cloud). Cloud was completely lost in what he was on about. So quickly Hojo was bored with Cloud, and refused to talk to him more.
Cloud was a bit troubled by being called a failed experiment, but he and the gang headed onwards.

Soon they got to a small town called North Corel where Barret was well known. Everyone hated him there, and wanted him gone from their sight. Barrent ran out like a dog with his tail between his legs, and refused to explain to Cloud and the crew, what was going on.

After some events taking place, Barret explained why everyone hated him, and he completely understood why they would, and didn't blame them for it.
4 years ago, Shinra came to North corel, wanting to install a Mako reactor so that the people there didn't need to mine for coal anymore, since Mako would be the new source of energy.
Barret was all for it, while his best friend Dyne was completely against it. They had a town meeting where everyone beside him was for it beside him. Dyne was "overpowered" and his plea was proven useless. a little while later, Shinra came back, putting the whole town in flames since someone was trying to destroy the new reactor, so this was their punishment. Barret and Dyne wasn't in town when it happed, but they saw the smoke, but some Shinra Soldiers and Scarlet* crossed their road and started to shoot at them. Dyne fell over a cliff side, where Barret just managed to grab his hand. But Scarlet took over a gun, and started to shoot at them again, claming to have a better aim. She shot the 2 hands which was keeping Dyne from falling. But barret had to let go since his arm was shot at with several bullets (This is why he has a mechanical arm), and Dyne fell to his death.
When Barret got to town much later, he found few survivors, his wife was dead, including Dyne's Wife, but their child Marlene* was still alive, so Barret saved her from the burning building, and swore to take care of her for him.

But right before he told his story, Cloud and a random character met Caith Sith who was a fortune teller. He meet them in a amusement park, and refused to leave Cloud alone by the odd fortune he gave him, he had to see with his own eyes if it came true.
Cloud had little to say in Caith Sith's eyes, so he just tagged along.

Cloud and the crew passed a small town where Cloud met some parent's, asking for a boy named Zack. Cloud had never herd of him, so of course he said he didn't know him, which was odd, since he was also First class SOLDIER.. and there were few who came that far in SOLDIER. Tifa and Aeris both ran off when Cloud denied ever hearing about Zack. Both of them reluctant to tell the reason why they suddenly ran off.

Next town they passed was Cosmo Canyon. Red XIII hometown.
Barret always wanted to go here since it was where AVALANCE was founded, so he wanted them to take a break.
With no hesitation, Red XIII ran to his grandfather Bugenhagen* to let him know he had returned. To everyone surprise, Bugenhagen was human, but none the less the only person who was closest to Nanaki (Red XIII). Both his parents* are dead.
Nanaki never liked his father, to his knowledge, his father Seto left the village when his strength was needed the moth, leaving him and his mother to defend the town alone.
Bugenhagen showed Nanaki a secret area, the only back way into Cosmo canyon. After going through a difficult path , Bugenhagen showed Nanaki his father, where he had ran of to in their hour of need. Seto was petrified at the top of a cliff, still defending Cosmo canyon through his stone body, like he was when the Gi tribe attacked that fateful day.
Nanaki felt more proud then ever and forgave his father for leaving him and his mother, because without his help, everyone in cosmo may have perished.
Bugenhagen convinced Nanaki to continue his path with Cloud, to make him grow older and wiser. To Cloud and the gang surprise, they was told by Bugenhagen that he was about 16 years in human years, so he had still much more to grow.

Everyone continue north on their search for Sephiroth.
Here they came to Nibleheim, Cloud and Tifa's hometown. To their surprise, they found the town in one piece, not at all burned down.
People unknown to Cloud walked around, and even lived in his house were strangers. The rest of the gang got suspicious that Cloud had been lying all along, but Cloud remembered the flames well, so he walked up to strangers, asking why thy we're here, they didn't belong in their city, that the town was supposed to be burned down. The villagers got mad at Cloud for making up such horrific stories, they told him that there was never a fire, in this town, and that he should leave at once before he would upset more people.
Cloud was devastated, starting to question himself even. Tifa remained silent, reluctant to hurt any ones feelings.

Suddenly Sephiroth appeared before them. Creating a illusion of flames and decay before them all.
Telling Cloud that he was a mere puppet, he was created, his memories was false, just something that was made his memories. His days as a 1st Class SOLDIER was false as well. Everything he knew and loved was fake. With some great illusions, Sephiroth showed him how easy it was to create this illusion.
This wasn't enough for Cloud, though it was obvious that he was extremely upset, on the edge of believing his story. But then Sephiroth showed them all a picture, taken 5 years ago when the mission to Nibleheim took place, Cloud remember the picture was taken, so he yelled that it was just a illusion again, that Cloud was sure to be in that picture (since he remembered it so well), but Sephiroth surely had manipulated the picture, making him disappear from the picture.
On the picture, you saw Tifa and Sephiroth which was correct, but in Clouds place, Zack, was in his place. Sephiroth said that Zack died, so that his past was the bases of Clouds fake past, so that Cloud would grow as a blind soldier working for Shinra. Cloud broke down, asking Tifa if he was there that day, ordering Tifa to tell them all that he was there. Tifa refused to answer, still afraid about hurting his feelings, so she didn't say a word.
Before Sephiroth left, he reminded Cloud that he was just a puppet.

Everyone was quiet, unsure what to say. But they kept on moving to search for Sephiroth.
They came to a town called Rocket town. In the centre of town, they saw a huge rusty rocket. Here thy met Cid. A man who loved machines. He was selected to steer the rocket to outer space years ago. But due to a incident, he had to cancel the takeoff to save someones life. they Rocket never worked properly after that, and the Space program (by Shinra of course) was shut down. Cid was in his rocket all the time, in hope that the Space program would be reopened.
Cid was real edgy this day, Rufus was to come to talk to him, and was on his way to talk to him.
Cid was in the rocket all day, he was sure that he was there to reopen the space program. Cid's biggest dream was to travel one place where no one has been, and that was outer space.
Rufus came, and Cloud and the gang hid in his backyard where they found his small plane. They wanted to use it, but was refused. But while looking around, they saw someone from Shinra inspecting it. Cloud and the gang ended in a fight of taking the plane.
Cloud won the fight, and they got the plane working. With a bang, thy flew right in front of the house, where Cid was talking to Rufus, Rufus wanted the plane and to Cid's disappointment, he was not there to reopen the space program, so he refused Rufus to take the last machine he owned (They have taken a airship and the rocket ship, and the plane was the last thing he had that didn't keep him grounded). As Cloud swung past them, Cid jumped the plane, refusing it to just leave him like that. Rufus ordered soldiers to shoot it down so that it would escape his clutches, he was halfway succeeded. The plane malfunctioned so it crashed in the water far away from Rufus. Cid fixed it up so that it could be used on shallow waters, and pretty much invited himself into their gang, joining them on their quest.

Sephiroth had mentioned something about the temple of Ancients, so that was their next clue to track him down. They needed to find the Key to the temple, so after some searching, they got back to the amusement park where the owner there had the key. With some negotiation, they got it, and finally was on their way to the temple, but Caith sith turned on them, and stole the key from Cloud (but only Cloud + one other member was there to see his back stabbing), it turned out that he was working for the Turks, and therefor giving away they keystone to them.
They carried on with Caith Sith, since he had blackmailed* Cloud, and had no choice but to listen to him.
They hurried to the Temple of Ancients in hope to get there in time to be there before Sephiroth could disappear again. Aeris was thrilled when they got there, she could talk to all the "ghost's/voices" of passed away Ancients. She got so much knowledge there, but to her fears, Sepiroth was inside the temple.
The Turks was there to stop Sephiroth from getting closer to the promised land, and the answer was in this temple. At the entrance, the boss Turk was stabbed by Sephiroth, and was bleeding badly. They had to leave him before Sephiroth got what he needed to get to the promised land. Voices in the temple guided Aeris to where he was, and after a while, they got to the room where he was last seen by the Ancients, and there he still was. He explained that with the black materia, that he would summon a meteor, creating such massive damage, that all the energy of the planet would focus in the "wound" from the meteor, and Sephiroth would be in the middle of the masses of energy, making him a God, and the link to the promised land. Cloud would have none of it, and wanted to fight to stop Sephiroth, but he disappeared into thin air again, and left them a dragon for them to fight instead.
After a brief battle, Cloud was acting strange. He had what I could describe as a fit, he started to laugh, and mumbling to himself, and was extremely weird. He snapped out of it, and understood everything about the meteor, and how Sephiroth actually could become God, but he needed the black materia. And to get it, they had to sacrifice one person to activate the temple to shrink to pocket size, cause the temple itself was the black materia Sephiroth needed. Caith Sith volunteered himself to be sacrificed. Everything went according to plan. The temple shrinked immediately Caith sith activated it, and Cloud picked the temple up which was now a small piece of black materia.
But then, Sephiroth returned, and Cloud got back into his seizure like fit, and had no control over his body, and gave Sephiroth the black materia. Sephiroth reminded him that he was only a puppet, and flew away.
Cloud broke down again, in anger for himself to let Sephiroth control him like that. But after a little bit of rest in the town where Zack's parents lived,Cloud had a odd dream. A dream where Aeris told him that she was going to stop the meteor, she knew of a way to stop it, and that she left north to find this place she needed to be to do this.
Cloud woke up to a odd atmosphere. He was unsure what to do, he had no faith in himself to carry on since he was so easily manipulated, but with a bit of talking, they decided to search for Aeris, who was actually gone.

They all managed to track her to the Lost city of the Ancients. A place unknown to everyone.
After a long search, they found her on a alter praying to the planet, they were happy to see her, since Cloud had a premonition that Sephroth was in the area. Cloud ran up to her, but when he was standing only a few feet away, he drew his sword reluctantly. With everything h had, he tried to stop his body from tasking the sword to kill Aeris. After a hard struggle, cloud threw away his sword, and managed to control himself from killing her. Aeris looked up and smiled at Cloud, and Cloud barely game a hint of a smile back. But then as the silence was broken, Sephiroth came out of the sky with his enormous sword drawn, and pushed his sword right through Aeris back, killing her there and then. Aeris had a useless materia, tied into her hair, it fell of her, and as it hit the ground it came obvious to Cloud what just had happened. Cloud grabbed Aeris before she hit the ground and was in tears, expressing to sephiroth how awful he felt, and that Aeris would never smile, cry laugh or get angry. cloud's anger grew, but was interrupted by Sephiroth, laughing at Cloud, cause how could a puppet have any feelings?
As fast as he came, he disappeared, leaving another limb of Jenova for the gang to fight.

After the fight, Cloud let Aeris go in a near by pond, and was more then ever reluctant to follow Sephiroth since he managed to manipulate him, he almost killed Aeris himself back there.
Tifa managed to convince Cloud to carry on, so they headed on after Sephiroth, to the north crater*.
After a long walk there, they finally was inside the cretor.
The gang sees both Rufus and Hojo near by, but ignores them to head on after Sephiroth.
With a few minor encounters with him where he only kills some clones* (That's why I told you to play the game instead of reading this, you're missing out on so much O_O ). Cloud soon encounters Sephiroth yet again, and he throws a a limp of Jenova at you again where you need to battle "her" yet again. After the battle, Cloud is rewarded with the black materia and moves on.
Next, they all see a replica of Nibleheim. Cloud tell's the others that it's only a illusion, but Tifa is a bit more disturbed. But Sephiroth says that Cloud was created by Hojo just like the other clones. Cloud seems to realize the folly in his memory and recovers from it before it breaks him.
They carry on and Cloud doesn't trust himself with the Black materia, and gives it to someone else, and that gang member is left behind with a few others. Not much happens until everyone beside the materia holder disappear, and Tifa arrives out of no where to tell that Cloud needs the black materia, so with little hesitation, the materia holder runs off after Cloud, but as soon everyone is out of sight, you see it was Sephiroth who pulled another illusion, and was pretending to be Tifa.

Cloud was separated by the others, and was alone, contemplating to himself, if or if not he was a puppet. After a long discussion to himself, he brought out the black materia he received and stood upright. Before him, there was a huge block of materia which shifted. And inside there, you saw Sephiroth cut in half, only waist up was showing, so Cloud reached out his hand with the black materia, making the solid materia seem like water, he awakened Sephiroth, giving him the materia.
The gang fled with Shinra who happed to be at the crator at the same time, with their help, they managed to escape the crator which began to crumble, but they were unable to save Cloud.

The gang was on the deck of a huge airship, and as they got out of the crator, they saw five enormous monsters flying out of the crator, they are called Weapons*.
A few days later Tifa woke up in Junion with Barret at her side. But Barret only had bad news for her, so he pulled away the curtains, and a huge ball of fire was headed for the planet.
Sephiroth received the black materia, and had summoned the meteor. It was only matter of time when the Meteor would strike, killing many, and making Sephiroth God of the planet.
Tifa asked for Cloud, seemed to be more concerned about him. But there was no sign of him. And they couldn't leave to search from him either, cause they were held prisoners of Shinra. They were going to execute them for the trouble they cause, and they publicly given them the blame from the plate in sector 6 to fall, killing so many innocent people (which was Shinra of course who did).
With allot of struggle, The gang managed to escape from clutches of Rufus, and was out searching for Cloud in hope he might be alive.
After allot of searching, they came to a little town where everyone talked about a man who was washed up there who was extremely ill. Tifa knew right away it was Cloud, so before they could finish what they were saying, she ran over to the little clinic where she did find Cloud.
But to her surprise, Cloud was in a wheelchair, and delusional. He couldn't focus, or talk properly. Tifa fell to her knees, so sad to find him in this state, she refused to leave his side if he happed to snap out of it. The doctors said he had seen it before, and he was lucky to be alive, and was surely never to get out of it. He had Mako poisoning, he had trawled the lifestream from the North crator, and all the way down to that town way south. Barret left Tifa with Cloud, and headed out with the rest of the crew in search of Huge materia* near his old home town and another location.

Barret needed the huge materia to stop Shinra from getting it.
After allot of struggle they managed to retrieve much of the materia, and there was only one left, but before they headed for it, they decided to check on Tifa and Cloud. Cloud was in the same state and Tifa was devastated still. When Barret arrived with the gang, the ground started to shake, and they all was forced to move, the lifestream was making the ground shake, forcing it's way up to surface in that little town. Tifa grabbed Cloud's wheelchair, and headed out of town, but she was to slow, and the lifestream engulfed the town and Tifa and Cloud.
Somehow, the Lifestream managed to get Tifa into Cloud's subcontinent, there she could see everything what was going on in his head, he was struggling with the information that h was just a puppet, and never really existed. Tifa helped Cloud finding the truth. She told him that she was reluctant to say anything before since it may have made some conflict's, making him run from her again. She stepped aside and let Cloud explain what he believed happed 5 years ago when he believed he came to Nibleheim. Tifa guided him, telling him that he was never in Nibleheim, and that they should go to a earlier moment in their life, something that only those 2 could remember.
Cloud expressed a memory he had of her when they were very young, that he always had a crush on the girl next door, always getting in fight's just to get her attention. Tifa reminded him of the promise they made when he was 14, that only those 2 could remember it, so the memory couldn't be false, that it must have actually taken place, so he couldn't be a puppet.
But then Cloud asked about what happed 5 years ago in Nibleheim. things started to come back to him. He never reached 1st Cass SOLDIER, so when Zack and Sephiroth headed for the mission in Nibleheim, he was actually there, but only as a normal SOLDIER. He remained hidden since he didn't reach first class, and didn't want to come back to town, disappointing Tifa that he never reached first class before the war ended. So he slept at the hotel and kept in uniform at all times. So he was never in the picture that Sephiroth mentioned. But he was there in the reactor, after Sephiroth put the city in flames, and was on his way to get Jenova. Cloud got to the reactor soon after Sephiroth, he had to try and save his mother, but she was already gone.
When Cloud got to the Reactor then, he saw Tifa crying over her father who Sephiroth had stabbed. Tifa grabbed his sword and chased Sephiroth, Cloud followed her into the core of the reactor. There he found her beaten down, so he grabbed hold of her, and put her out of harms way (keeping his promise that he would save Tifa when she would need it) and ran after Sephiroth to kill him. Zack was there to, but like Tifa, he was beaten down so everything was on Cloud's shoulders.

After clearing up the past, Cloud and Tifa woke up into the "real world", Cloud more confident the never, knowing he's not a puppet, and couldn't be more ready to get Sephiroth.
They now head for another huge materia located at Junion, but to get the very last one,
Cloud and the gang headed to rocket town to get it.
Inside the space ship was the place it was. Shinra restarted the space program, so that they could shoot the rocket into the meteor with all the huge materia, hoping that would destroy the meteor and ruining Sephiroth chances to get to the promised land before Rufus.

They fight their way into the rocket to get the last materia, but they get launched outer space with it, and heading in a collision course straight for the meteor.
Cloud hurries to get the last materia, and it depends all on luck if he get's it or not, but with the materia or not, they head for the escape pod, and in the nick of time manages to escape from the space ship and heads back to earth.

The rocket hit's the meteor, but only gives it a bruise. The meteor was still heading words earth, and the outcome or the expected damage from the meteor was still the same.

Now that they knew that Shinra's attempt didn't work, they head for Bugenhagen in hope to get some more wisdom.
Bugenhagen says they might get some answers at the city of the Ancients, and they all including Bugenhagen travels there. Bugenhagen explains about Aeris and her useless materia AKA White Materia. He says that if the materia gave a green glow, it means that Aeris was praying for Holy*, and it could save them and stop the meteor, but the trick with Holy was that it would eliminate everything that's bad for the planet.. Other words, if it thought Humans was a threat for the planet, all humans would perish.
When they got there, Bugenhagen places a key (which Cloud has retrieved before) in a music box, and a waterfall covers a alter.
Bugenhagen calls for Cloud, and they watch a clip produced by the waterfall where it shows the moment when Aeris was killed by Sephiroth.
To their joy they see that Aeris materia was glowing a faint green light. Now all they could do was to wait and see what category humans fitted in.
They headed of to the North crator to finish off Sephiroth once and for all, and hopefully holy would take care of the meteor.

But before they did this, they encountered Hojo to fight him. Hojo told the gang before he died that he was Sephiroth biological father and hit a button to kill one of the planets weapons.

After a long trip down to the centre of the planet where the true form of Sephiroth was, Cloud and the gang engaged in a fight with 2 mutant forms of Sephiroth and defeated them both. But something didn't seem right, and Cloud went into one of his fit's again, you see his soul/spirit was brought out of him, and the next thing you see is a awesome FMV of Cloud head first heading down a tunnel, by the look on his face, it seems like he knew what was coming for him. At the end of the tunnel, you see Sephiroth with a smile, just waiting for Cloud. With one Blow, Cloud defeats Sephiroth and Sephiroth just disappears into nothing. Cloud then get's back to his body, waking up to Tifa screaming at him cause the crator was collapsing. With some great action, Cloud get's himself and Tifa to safety, while the crator crumbles together with them in it. Cloud was asked where the others were. A bit higher up, he saw them waving at him. He was sure this was it, that they were going to die and said to himself, that they did what they could, and the rest was up to the planet to decide. Suddenly with a bang, the Highwind* comes crashing down to pick up the whole gang. With a power boost switch that Cid flips over, they manages to get out of the crator just before the crator crumbles together.

Everyone was now waited. They saw the Meteor coming closer and closer, and everyone got more and more anxiously if Holy was coming or not. Suddenly the meteor came crashing down, and little by little it was destroying midgar, but then, far in the horizon, Cloud see's the lifestream in full speed words the meteor to stop it. You see a little flash, and a image of Aeris looking up, it comes and goes just as fast, like implying that everything is going to be alright.

The world is safe for now, and the last words expressed by Cloud is: "I can see her there".

Now don't you wish you played the game??
Well there is allot more behind the game then what I felt that wasn't necessary to mention, so if you want to understand the story better, and make conclusions on your own, there are so many loose ends in this game forcing you to speculate the rest, so there are plenty of more things to discover, and not to mention get full out what they all say and see the FMV's and not to mention to see Sephiroth "topless" in the end ;P

Midgar:
The capital of the world. where everything takes place. There are most people and reactors here, and is obviously the HQ of Shinra Company.

Avalanche:
A freedom group first started in a far away village of Cosmo canyon. Barret restarted the group with completely new members (being new himself as well) in Midgar, to stop Shinra from draining the planets energy, or in other words, like pumping the blood from our bodies to make energy.

Shinra:
Shinra is a "evil" company only after money and power. Shinra is the government in this game. They control the world all thanx to Mako in many different ways besides energy alone.

Mako:
Mako is what Shinra call the energy they have pumped out of the planet, distributing it to the closest city like electricity for us.

Reactor:
A reactor is a pump that's been placed all over the world to pump energy from the planet.

SOLDIER:
SOLDIER is Shinras military. Normal soldiers are in SOLDIER, but there is a special class called 1st class SOLDIER where only unique fighters qualifies to be in that category.
All SOLDIERS, 1st and normal are showered in Mako to get a extra punch. Thanx to it, it gives soldiers extra strength and a helping edge when they are in a battle.

Lifestream:
The lifestream is the planet's blood. When life dies, no matter if it's a plant or an animal, the energy of it goes in the lifestream. Then later on that energy is created anew another place, maybe in a new form (reincarnation in other words)

7th heaven:
Is Tifa's bar in Sector 6 where she has spent her time ever since she left her hometown

Promise:
Cloud promised Tifa that he would rescue her if she was ever in trouble in the future. She wanted to exp that least once in her life that she was a damsel in distress, and her prince would rescue her.
but only when Cloud had become as great/powerful as the well talked about Sephiroth.

Turks:
Turks are like secret agents. They go out on special missions that's nothing for the military to take care of.

Chocobo:
A big bird which is a tradition in FF games. It's big enough so your characters can ride it. In FF7 it's used so you can breed it so that you can create a better and better chocobo until you can get to remote locations, and win all the races at the track.

Hojo:
Mad scientist who helps Shinra making both mechanical and biological weapons of war.

Ancient:
Ancient is the earth guardians. It's the oldest breed of "humans" that's been on this earth. All but one died after a terrible event. Aeris mother was the last one to survive.

Promised land:
Promised land is heaven for us. Where everything is perfect, or out of personal speculation, I would compare it to the Buddhist way of thinking, and call it Nirvana.

Jenova:
There is so much story behind this woman. But since you're not playing the game I'm going to keep it simple. Jenova is a alien and Sephiroth's mother.

Red XIII:
Red or Nanaki which is his birth name, is a young creature though he may seem old for his age.

Rufus:
The Presidents son, who is not the president. Unlike his father, he wanted to rule the world with fear instead of money like his old man.

Wutai:
A remote town which was the last city which Shinra didn't control.

Scarlet:

Marlene:
She has such a small role in this game, so all that's need to be said about her has been mentioned.

Bugenhagen:
Bugenhagen adopted Nanaki more or less when both his parents died. He has taught Nanaki allot and still keep on doing it. He is a master of knowledge, and considered as the one to go too, to get the information you may need.

Blackmailed:
Caith sith had taken Marlene, using her as a hostage, so she would get hurt if they didn't listen to him.

North crator:
The north crator was cretor 2000 years ago when a meteor struck it the first time. The wound never healed, and is the reason why there is still a gaping hole there now.

Weapons:
Weapons are created by the planet as a defence. When the meteor hit 2000 years ago was the reason why they came to be. It now shows up to stop the new meteor threatening the planet this time around.

Huge Materia:
There is little use for them beside being the key to get super materia in the game.

Clones:
When Sephiroth was lost to Hojo, he started to do some new experiments to replace him. He made "clones" of him by experimenting on humans with the same treatment he gave Sephiroth. They are not actual clones, but in the game they are refereed as Clones, most likely a translation error.

Holy:
Is generated by the planet. And Aeris is the only one who can summon it as a last resort to aid the planet when the meteor strikes.

Junion cannon (sister ray):
Junon city had a extremely large cannon from the war which was mounted in the side of the rocky cliff wall. As last resort for Shinra to maybe regain the chance to get to the promised land, they rip the canon off Junion, and places it Midgar so it has power from all of the reactors there, to create enough power to shoot through a barrier that surrounds Sephiroth.

Highwind:
Cid's pride and joy, the biggest and only jet powred machine known in the FF7 world
