On the world map you can see the Dollet Communication tower on the cliffs above the town. Although you can use the Ragnarok to land next to it, you can't enter from there.

On Disc 2, during a Laguna sequence, you get to see Raine, who is later implied to be a certain characters mother. Most people don't realise that Raine is actually pregnant throughout that sequence. If Laguna asks Kiros about Julia, Kiros will talk about the recent release of the song 'eyes on me'. Rinoa was born a year after the release, and the character in question is around six or seven months older than she is.

In Selphie's diary, she mentions a word she's trying to spread, 'Booyaka'. As she comments at one point, no one uses it. However, in Final Fantasy X-2, 'Booyaka!' is one of Rikku's battle cries, particularly when in her special dress-sphere. As a songstress, Yuna is also known to call "Hey, eyes on me!" the title of the FFVIII theme tune.

In Final Fantasy IX, during the end sequence, one character says the line "neither cloud nor squall shall hinder us,", generally assumed to be a reference to the main characters of Final Fantasy VII and VIII.

In Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, the third part of another Squaresoft series, the in game dictionary definition of 'Squall' ends in the line "and speaking of Squalls....".

Both Squall and Selphie appear in Kingdom Hearts, yet another Square creation. Selphie is nine years old and lives on Destiny Island, with no recollection of the FFVIII universe. Squall, on the other hand, has come from his own world, is in his twenties, and uses the name 'Leon', saying he will not answer to the name Squall until he avenges himself on the heartless.
