Strategy

This boss will throw all sorts of status effects your way, so be sure to protect against Doom, Confuse, Blind, and Sleep as best you can. Keep Esuna ready in your gambit to heal those effected members who aren’t protected. Also, make sure to have a healthy supply of curative items available. Consider using items as an alternative as casting Esuna can deplete your MP. Either way you’ll need upgraded Remedies that can cure Doom (according to the License Grid). Have Raise or a Phoenix Down in your top gambit.

Ahriman will use Blizzara, so you should also protect against Ice magic if you are able. It’ll keep transporting itself around the room, so you’ll have to swivel to find it again. Ahriman will also create up to three copies of itself. The replicas aren’t as strong and will go down with one or two hits. If the copies are close together, you can cast Cura or Bio on them to take them down at the same time. Keep your members’ HP above 50%. When the boss’ HP drops down to 20%, he’ll attack with Master Eye, which will deal heavy damage. Don’t waste a Quickening early in the battle. Wait until his HP is low, then switch out for a character with a full MP bar, and unleash a Quickening chain.

CLASSIFICATION: Undead Lord

Observations

In ancient times, Sochen Cave Palace was used as a ground for spiritual training by monks and ascetics. Here they purified their hearts, yet the corruption they washed away pooled, becoming the black soil out of which the Ahriman is said to have grown. The coalescence of discarded corruption hates those with pure hearts, and attacks with vengeful animosity.

For this, the Ahriman is considered an enemy by most religions of Ivalice.
