|Job||Leader of AVALANCHE|
Barret Wallace is one of the main characters in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII. As the leader of AVALANCHE, Barret holds the Shinra Company with much contempt and malice. His never-ending fight against Shinra is one of personal revenge for the burning of his hometown, Corel, and the resulting deaths of his friends and family. Barret's quick-temper and violent tendencies will frighten strangers, but he can be gentle and soft-hearted with his close friends and his adopted daughter, Marlene.
Barret is the leader of an eco-terrorist organization known as AVALANCHE, a group trying to stop the Shinra Company due to their exploitation of Mako Energy. Under Barret, the group became an underground resistance group whose mission it was stop the use of Mako energy by destroying the reactors that power Midgar. Devoting his life to vengeance, Barret hired Cloud Strife, an ex-SOLDIER, at the request of Tifa Lockhart. Barret leads the attack on Sector 1’s Mako Reactor, and with Cloud's help the mission is successful. Back at 7th Heaven, AVALANCHE's secret headquarters, Barret makes it clear that he doesn't like Cloud but keeps him on the team because of his skills and Tifa's insistence.
When Shinra threatens to drop the Sector 7 plate, Barret and AVALANCHE fight them in Cloud and Tifa's absence. When Cloud and Tifa arrive, they help Barret fight Reno of the Turks, but he manages to drop the plate anyway. The trio escape, but Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie are killed in the resulting tragedy, further fueling Barret's need for vengeance. His concern for Marlene's safety is consoled when Tifa assures him that Aeris rescued her in time.
When the party arrives in North Corel, Barret is greeted with scorn by the townspeople. He explains that Corel was his hometown and he was orginally a coal miner. When Shinra wanted to build a Mako Reactor near the town, Barret agreed that it would be good for the town. But when the reactor exploded, Shinra accused Corel of having ties with the AVALANCHE group and so Shinra had it destroy and killed many of the citizens, including Barret's wife Myrna. The only survivors were Barret and Dyne, who had not been in the city at the time of Shinra's attack. However, they were later pursued by Shinra troops and ultimately Barret lost his friend Dyne and his right arm. After these events, Barret continued on to Midgar to extract revenge on Shinra, and adopted Dyne's daughter, Marlene, as his own.
When the party arrives at the Gold Saucer, Barret runs off on his own refusing to be a part of the festivities. When a man with a gun-arm slaughters the patrons of the park, Cloud’s party is sentenced to Corel Prison. They reunite with Barret who tells them of his friend Dyne, who he believes was the gun-armed assassin. Needing permission to leave the prison, the group tracks down Dyne, who has become a twisted and bleak individual. Barret is forced to fight with his old friend, and when Barret defeats him, he tells him that his daughter is still alive. Dyne, however, can not accept the fate of his town or the man he has become and commits suicide.
After fleeing the Northern Crater with the help of Shinra, Barret and Tifa are sentenced to execution. With the aid of Cait Sith, Barret escapes to the Highwind where the rest of the party waits. In the absence of Cloud and Tifa, Barret denies being the group’s leader. During Cid's reign as leader, the party must rescue North Corel from a runaway train. Should the player stop the train, Barret is forgiven by the people and becomes a hero. On the other hand, if the player is unable to stop the train, Barret is held in further contempt.
 Final Fantasy VII: On the Way to a Smile
In this novella, Barret reunites with Marlene shortly after the events of the game. Together with Cloud and Tifa, they help build the new city of Edge from the rubble of Midgar. Barret convinces Tifa to open a new bar, which Marlene suggests to name 7th Heaven. Shortly after, Barret leaves Marlene in the care of Cloud and Tifa to find an alternate source of energy for the Planet. Barret gets a new attachment for his gun-arm that resembles a hand and travels to Rocket Town. There he finds Cid, and the two use his airship to search for oil and aid those infected with Geostigma.

Barret has a small role in the film, first being heard in a message on Cloud’s phone. He tells Cloud that he's struck oil and plans to return to Edge to see Marlene. Barret arrives later to stop Denzel from running after Bahamut SIN and even refers to Tifa as "Mom". He aids in the battle and provides humor during Cloud's fight against Kadaj. Barret is pictured at the end of the film with the rest of the cast in the church.
Barret makes a cameo appearance in this game along with Cloud and Tifa. He helps lead the ground assault on Midgar to fight Deepground.
