A chocobo is a reoccuring beast in the Final Fantasy series that usually is used for transportation. In some games, a chocobo may appear as a summon. They've even had their own spin-off games! Chocobos are emu-like beasts that are usually yellow in color. Those that are another color generally have special abilities. Usually riding a chocobo on the world map will prevent random enemy encounters as well.
Final Fantasy III
Chocobos have a lot of usage in this game. If you can find the Chocobo Forest you can summon Fat Chocobo. The regular chocobos in the forest allow you to ride them around every where that isn't blocked by mountains. Riding chocobos also exempts you from fighting any enemies on your travels. There is a Chocobo summon in the game as well.
Summon
- Job: Evoker, Sage, Summoner
- White Summon: Escape instantly from battle.
- Black Summon: Attack the enemy (Inefective)
- High Summon: Damages one enemy with a powerful chocobo kick
Final Fantasy IV
Chocobos can be found in the chocobo forest. White chocobos can restore MP, where yellow ones can simply be ridden. The Fat Chocobo is crucial for the development of Whyt, Rydia's special Eilodon. Whyt can be trained or altered by the Fat Chocobo.

Final Fantasy VI
Chocobos can be rented from stables in towns and forests. No enemies can attack the riders while mounted, and ride time is unlimited until dismount.
Final Fantasy VII
In this game, generic chocobos can be used for transportation on the world map. They are also used in the side quest Chocobo Breeding & Racing. There is even a special chocobo summon, Choco/Mog.
