Cidolfus Demen Bunansa, or Dr. Cid, is a scientist and Chief of Draklor Laboratory under Archadia and the father of Balthier from Final Fantasy XII. Six years prior to the events of the game, Dr. Cid traveled to the Jagd Difohr for research, and instead uncovered the Ancient City of Giruvegan. Here he learned how to manufact nethicite and began to become obsessed with it. He was responsible for making Balthier a Judge and building the airships for the Archadian Empire. Dr. Cid began talking to an invisible Occurian, Venat, who he picked up in Giruvegan, causing those around him to perceive him as going mad. His own son abandoned his position as Judge to escape his father’s increasing senility to become a sky pirate.

During the game, Dr. Cid believes he and Venat are helping mankind reclaim control of their own destiny. The party first encounters him in Draklor Laboratory, but he escapes, sending them on a false chase to Giruvegan. They eventually meet again at Pharos at Ridorana, and Dr. Cid has already combined the three shards from the Sun-Cryst. He engages in a second battle with the party while the Sun-Cryst undergoes meltdown, but with the aid of Famfrit this time. Upon his defeat, Balthier attempts a short reconciliation, but Dr. Cid is adamant that his work was to help humanity.

He is the first Cid in the series to be a villan: most are either allies at first or join the party later.

Dr. Cid has the assistance of four Helm Rooks in this battle that are very tough for minions in a boss battle. You'll have a hard time getting to Cid while the Rooks are around, so it's important to take them out first. The Helm Rooks will cast Reflect, Protect, and Regen on Dr. Cid. Cast Haste on your party, and unleash a Quickening attack with your inactive party on one of the Helm Rooks. A good chain will net you one of the special area attacks, effecting all of the Helm Rooks. Switch back to your active party and finish the cronies with regular physical attacks before going after Dr. Cid. Don't use any magicks on Dr. Cid as he is equipped with Reflect. Make sure to heal as necessary. Keep your party members' HP above 1000 to survive some of the Scientist's powerful attacks. Unlike other boss fights, you don't have to completely deplete Dr. Cid's HP to win. After his health drops low enough, one of his ally's will jump in to end the battle.

This fight will start out against the lone Dr. Cid, and you have Reddas helping out. Cast Dispel on Dr. Cid and Haste/Protect on your party members. Use your regular attacks until his HP drops to about 50%. At this point, he'll call upon the Esper Famfrit to help him. Start focusing your attacks on Famfrit because you won't be able to attack Dr. Cid with the Esper in the battlefield. Cast Dispel on Famfrit, and renew Haste/Protect if you need to, adding Shell to protect against magickal attacks. Dr. Cid will continue doing things in the background, but just ignore him until Famfrit falls. Cast Oil on the Esper and throw some fire-based spells at him to deal some good damage. Famfrit will occasionally Silence your party, so make sure to cure that right away. Once Famfrit is gone, go back to Dr. Cid, who will fall rather quickly.
