Creation and Development
The creation of this compilation began when Square Enix decided to expand and create a series of Final Fantasy games that would allow exposure of their products to reach as wide an audience as possible. When quizzed on the matter, Yoshinori Kitase immediately choose Final Fantasy VII as a bases for this new series and development began. The Compilation has been described by producers as a "50 million yen project" and currently spans 2 Console, 2 Mobile Phone, 1 PSP and 2 movie entries.
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, an original CG movie set 2 years after the initial Final Fantasy VII, was the first title to be announced in the Compilation and was unveiled at the Tokyo Game Show 2003. Upon its release in 2005 it was announced that the film would also come bundled with Final Fantasy VII: Last Order, a short animation detailing Zack and Cloud's escape for the destruction of Nibelhiem. During the time in between Advent Children's announcement and release, Final Fantasy VII: Before Crisis was released, detailing the early events of the Shinra Electric Power Company and the Turks, on Mobile Phones, but only within Japan. Next to be announced and released was Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus in 2006, along with its mobile phone counterpart Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus - Lost Episode, a PS2 RPG/Shooter hybrid set three after the events of Final Fantasy VII. Finally, Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core was released in 2007, a PSP RPG that takes place before the events of Final Fantasy VII and follows the adventures of Zack and Cloud.
