Final Fantasy VIII
Giglamesh is gained as a GF after Seifer Almasy defeats Odin in battle during Disk 3. Gilgamesh has 3 other swords along with his newly acquired Zantetsuken called Excalipoor, Excalibur, and Masamune. He also appears randomly, but unlike Odin, can appear during boss fights. Gilgamesh cannot be junctioned.
Final Fantasy XII
Gilgamesh is an Elite Mark called Ancient Man of Mystery. He is fought in two different encounters, the first in the Tasche Span section and the second in the Site 7 section. He appears both times with his pal, Enkidu. You must defeat him in the second encounter in order to complete the hunt.
HUNT: Battle on the Big Bridge
MARK NO.: 40
Petitioner: Montblanc (Rabanastre/The Clan Hall)
Reward: 10000 gil, Masamune
Bonus: Unlock Gilgamesh figure and the Master Swordsman title in the Sky Pirate’s Den
First Encounter
LOCATION: Lhusu Mines/Tasche Span
| Level | HP | MP | STR | MAG PW | VIT | SPD | ATK PW | DEF | MAG RES | EVA | EXP | LP | CP | GIL |
| 45 | 123103 | 999 | 42 | 25 | 79 | 21 | 76 | 26 | 30 | 6 | 0 | 65 | 3960 | 0 |
1/2 Damage: Fire, Thunder, Ice, Earth, Water, Aero, Holy, Dark
Steal: Potion, 1000 gil, 2000 gil, Genji Shield, Genji Gauntlet
Strategy
Cast Dispel on both of them to get rid of their positive statuses. Then cast Silence and Blind on Enkidu and Slow on Gilgamesh. Start by focusing on Enkidu (the wolf). Use physical attacks or magick as you see fit until he’s gone. Now you can concentrate on Gilgamesh. You’ll have to continue to use Dispel on Gilgamesh. Keep your party healed, and when his HP gets low, he’ll cast Perfect Defense, which makes him immune to any attacks. Use this opportunity to completely heal your party, and when the effect wears off, continue your attacks to finish him off. When the battle’s over, Gilgamesh will flee deeper into the mine. Stop at the save crystal before engaging Gilgamesh again.
Note: You need to complete the hunt for Antlion in order to follow Gilgamesh.
Second Encounter
LOCATION: Lhusu Mines/Site 7
| Level | HP | MP | STR | MAG PW | VIT | SPD | ATK PW | DEF | MAG RES | EVA | EXP | LP | CP | GIL |
| 70 | 473246 | 999 | 55 | 44 | 90 | 27 | 118 | 36 | 38 | 10 | 0 | 120 | 6700 | 0 |
1/2 Damage: Fire, Thunder, Ice, Earth, Water, Aero, Holy, Dark
Steal: Hi-Potion, 3000 gil, Hi-Potion, 4000 gil, Genji Helm, Genji Armor
Strategy
Gilamesh is much stronger the second time. If you need to do more leveling up before engaging him again, you can do so and come back. Since the boss uses attacks such as Lv. 2 Sleep, Lv. 3 Disable, and Lv. 4 Break, it’s extremely advisable for your characters to be at a level that is not divisible by 2, 3, or 4 (like 61, 65, etc). Being immune to these status effects will give you a great advantage because it will waste Gilgamesh’s turns. If you go in at a level that will be effected by these, you’ll need to bring a supply of items to cure them.
Again, you want to start the battle by focusing on Enkidu. Cast Dispel on both of them immediately, followed by Blind on Enkidu. Cast Protect on your own party members and start attacking the wolf. Heal when you need to, and keep attacking until Enkidu goes down. You’ll need to continually Dispel Gilgamesh, so keep it up. When his HP falls below 30%, he’ll use Bitter End, which is an attack that may inflict Sap. Counter with Regen, and continue attacking. When his HP drops to 70%, he will erect a paling. Keep your characters healthy, and watch as Gilgamesh chains his attacks. He’ll also use Monarch Sword twice which will most likely KO the character it hits. Revive your characters and stay healthy. After the second Monarch Sword, the paling will fall and you can continue to attack until he is defeated.
Note: You’ll get a cutscene as you leave the battlefield, which is different depending on who you have as your lead character.
