Ivalice is the world of Final Fantasy XII. It is made up of three large connecting continents, Valendia, Ordalia, and Kerwon.

[edit] Dalmasca

An ancient kingdom with a noble history, Dalmasca arose in the time of B'nargin, second son of King Raithwall, the Dynast-King. The Dusk Shard, a relic left by King Raithwall, is passed down from generation to generation within the family, as a symbol of their unbroken bloodline. The kingdom spans the Galtean Peninsula, and, being situated at the meeting point of the continents of Valendia, Ordalia and Kerwan, thrives as a vital centre of trade. Dalmasca enjoys friendly relations with the neighboring Kingdom of Nabradia, whose rulers also descend from the Dynast-King. Though Dalmasca had remained independent for over three centuries, the threat of Archadian aggression forces Dalmasca to enter into a treaty of mutual protection with Nabradia. When Nabradia is invaded, Dalmasca has no choice but to enter the war, and is quickly defeated by the overwhelming power of the Archadian Empire. The King of Dalmasca is assassinated shortly before a peace treaty can be signed, and, without a lawful successor to accede to the throne, the Kingdom falls under the dominion of the Archadian Empire.

The Royal City of Rabanastre is the capital city of Dalmasca. Many different races inhabit the city. The slums of the city is called "Lowtown" and is the home of Vaan and Penelo. The Royal Palace is home of the Dalmascan royal family including Ashelia B'nargin Dalmasca.

Beneath Rabanastre, the Garamsythe Waterway provides a perilous pathway into the Royal Palace.

[edit] Dalmasca Estersand

Main Article: Dalmasca Estersand

Like the name suggests, this region of desert is located east of Rabanastre. Leads to Nalbina Fortress and the Mosphoran Highwaste from Rabanastre.

This desert region is located to the west of Rabanastre. Leads to the Jagd Yensa from Rabanastre.

[edit] Giza Plains

This area is located to the south of Rabanastre. The region experiences two seasons: The Dry and the Rains. The landscape of the area changes according to which season is currently active. Leads to Bancour.

[edit] Nalbina Fortress

Main Article: Nalbina Fortress

Nalbina Fortress is on the border of the Ordalia and Valendia. Once under the control of Nabradia, after the war, the fortress fell under the command of the Imperial Army. Beneath the fortress is the Nalbina Dungeons.

Barheim Passage is an underground passageway connecting Nalbina Dungeons and the Dalmasca Estersand. The party uses this path to escape the dungeons.

The Jagd Yensa is a region of jagd that is home to the Urutan-Yensa.

Ogir-Yensa Sandsea is the eastern portion of the Great Yensan Sandsea. It is littered with oil rigs that are used as pathways to cross the sandsea.

Nam-Yensa Sandsea is the western portion of the Great Yensan Sandsea.


[edit] Tomb of Raithwall

Main Article: Tomb of Raithwall

The Tomb of Raithwall is the westernmost location on the map, and it houses the Dynast-King Raithwall's greatest treasures, including Belias and the Dawn Shard.


[edit] Zertinan Caverns

Zertinan Caverns are an underground cave system that run under Ozmone Plains, the Dalmasca Westersand, and the Nam-Yensa and Ogir-Yensa Sandseas.

Bancour is a region near the Kerwon-Ordalia border that is not under any country's rule.

Main Article: Jahara

Jahara is the land of the Garif, a race that sees little use for technological advances. This region sees very few visitors.

The Henne Mines are an underground magicite mine system. Most of the mines are unaccessible until the player reaches certain requirements, opening up sections at a time.

The Ozmone Plain are a grassy region south of Giza Plains.

[edit] Jagd Difohr

The Jagd Difohr is a largely forested region of jagd.


[edit] Golmore Jungle

The Golmore Jungle is a thick jungle where the Viera have constructed several magickal barriers that prevent passage through the jungle which can only be passed through with Lente's Tear.

Main Article: Eruyt Village

Eruyt Village is the home of the Viera, and the birthplace of Fran. The path to the village is hidden, and only accessible by a Viera so as to keep them from the world of the Humes.

The Feywood is another forested area heavily guarded by the Mist.


[edit] Giruvegan

The Ancient City of Giruvegan was once home to the Occuria, but is currently a mysterious ruins.

Jagd Ramooda is an area of jagd that is covered in snow and lined with mountain ranges.


[edit] Paramina Rift

This snow-covered trail winds through the mountainous region and is the only way to get to Mt. Bur-Omisace.

Mt. Bur-Omisace is the home of the Kiltia, including Gran Kiltias Anastasis. Those that seek to practice the religion travel to the mountain, but it has also become a base for refugees seeking shelter.

Stilshrine of Miriam is a large shrine hiding the Sword of Kings, a relic of the Dynast-King. Here, the player can also battle and obtain the Esper, Mateus.

Nabradia was a small kingdom between Dalmasca and Archadia. Two years prior to the events of the game, Nabradia was invaded by Archadian forces, and is now under Archadian control.

Mosphoran Highwaste is an overgrown mountain pathway that leads into the greater continent.

Salikawood is a forested area that connects via a large gate to the Phon Coast.

The Nabreus Deadlands is the region surrounding the former capital of Nabradia. This region, along with the capital, was destroyed by Archadian forces. Now the region is covered in thick mist, and infested with many monsters, including the undead

The Necrohol of Nabudis was once the capital of Nabradia. During the invasion by Archadia, the power of the Midlight Shard was released on the area, resulting in total destruction.

Once a mere city-state of the Galtean Alliance, Archadia has since become a major power, ruling the majority of the eastern lands of Ivalice. Both technologically and politically advanced, Archadia operates under a republican system of government, the reins of power resting with its Senate; as such, laws within the Empire are progressive and rational. Although there is clear distinction between the classes, living standards of the citizens are high, and the class system itself is fairly mobile. Tensions with Rozarria - an empire of similar size and power in the west - have simmered for the past two centuries. Though war between the two empires has broken out on numerous occasions, conflicts have thus far produced no victor. For many years, the current emperor, Lord Gramis, with prompting from Doctor Cid, has pursued a policy of subjugating Archadia's neighbors in an attempt to end this continuing stalemate. Archadia's recent action against the Kingdom of Nabradia was carried out to this purpose.

Phon Coast is a large beach spanning along the ocean. It lies between the Salikawood and the Tchita Uplands. The Hunter's Camp can be found here providing rewards to the player that hunts for rare game.

[edit] Tchita Uplands

Tchita Uplands is a plains region infested with monsters. Contains paths to the Phon Coast, the Sochen Cave Palace, and Cerobi Steppe. The ancient people of this land built shrines in order to seal a great wyrm.

Sochen Cove Palace is a cavern underneath Old Archades, used by the party as a means into the Empire's walls.

Old Archades was once a part of the main city, but now is a slums region for the poor.

The Imperial City of Archades is the capital of Archadia. Air cabs are used as transportation throughout the city.


[edit] Draklor Laboratory

Draklor Laboratory is the center of research for the Archadian Empire, headed by Doctor Cid. The laboratory researches the creation of airships, weaponry, and nethicite.


[edit] Balfonheim

Main Article: Port of Balfonheim

The Port of Balfonheim is a pirate city, loosely run by Reddas. Although the city is within the limits of the Archadian Empire, it remains neutral amidst the struggle.


[edit] Cerobi Steppe

Cerobi Steppe is a plains region, covered with windmills that aren't functioning and riddled with monsters. Leads to the Tchita Uplands from Balfonheim.

[edit] Purvama

Purvama, or the Floating Lands, is a group of floating landmasses above the Naldoan Sea.


[edit] Bhujerba

Main Article: Skycity of Bhujerba

The Skycity of Bhujerba is located on the Dorstonis continent. Previously a neutral city, it has recently been forced to take allegiance with Archadia. However, its leader, Marquis Ondore, is a member of the Dalmascan Resistance.

[edit] Lhusu Mines

Lhusu Mines are magicite mines located in Bhujerba, and the reason for the city's forced alliance with Archadia.


[edit] Jagd Naldoa

The eastern-most region of the map.


[edit] The Ridorana Cataract

Where an opening in the seafloor has created an endless whirlpool, preventing approach by ship. As it is in jagd, approach by airship is supposedly impossible, however the party and Cid manage to make it. An island stands on the edge, containing the Pharos.

A great monument near the Ridorana Cataract. Dark orbs and puzzle solving are required to explore the entire building.

[edit] Dreadnought Leviathan

Main Article: Leviathan (FFXII)

Dreadnought Leviathan is a large airship of the 8th Imperial Fleet under the command of Judge Ghis. The Leviathan was eventually destroyed, along with the rest of the eighth fleet, during the testing of the Nethecite called "The Dawn Shard".


[edit] Skyfortress Bahamut

Bahamut is a large floating fortress under the command of the Imperial army. It hovers over Rabanastre, and is the location of the final battle of the game.
