Limit Breaks are powerful attacks that can be used by playable characters in certain games. They usually involve the character having to either fill up a bar, or be in a dangerous state, such as low amounts of HP.

Use
Limit Breaks allow characters to perform special attacks. The attacks vary between character. Limit Breaks are unlockable in every game that features them.
There are three forms of Limit Breaks, each for five games: Desperation Attacks (FFVI), Limit Breaks (FFVII & FFVIII), Trance (FFIX) and Overdrives (FFX)
Despite having different names, their use is the same: To harm or heal enemies or allies. For example, Eiko's Trance is Double White Magic, which allows her to cast two spells without pause. Zidane's Trance is Dyne, which causes damage to one or all enemies. Trances last until the battle ends, or until the bar depletes by making moves. Overdrives and Limit Breaks last until the user uses the attacks, or dies. The most common way to raise the bar is to take damage from an enemy. In Final Fantasy VIII, the lower the HP, the higher a chance there is of using a Limit Break.
