Garnet til Alexandros XVII is a 17 year old Princess, the sole heir to the throne on Alexandria. She is mature, calm and enjoys literature. She has the ability to summon magical creatures called Eidolons, and is one of very few who can. She can be a free spirit at times and this often causes Steiner, her guardian and also Captain of the Knights of Pluto, to be very over-protective. She later encounters Zidane Tribal and goes under the alias Dagger. In battle, Garnet/Dagger serves as a White Mage and Summoner. Her weapon of choice is usually some variation of a rod. Her primary use early in the game is to heal her comrades in battle and support them. As the game progresses, she becomes more versatile with the ability to summon her Eidolons, which can cause large amounts of damage to multiple enemies.

History

In the late afternoon sunlight, Garnet awakens from a horrible nightmare in which she was hulled up in a ship tossed upon a stormy sea, that was quickly falling apart from the rough ocean waters. Brushing sleep dust from her eyes with a knuckled fist, she opens the windows to her room, affording a view of the countryside around Alexandria and the approcahing theatre ship, the Prima Vista.

Later that evening, she is disinterested in the opening performance of the Tantalus crew and slips away from her seat during one of the acts, to change in a White Mage cloak. Thinking that this is the perfect time to escape, and with the intent to sneak aboard the ship when it leaves, she runs into one of its crew who is mysteriously prowling around the castle. The encounter ends quickly when the boy is distracted by a comrade, allowing her to escape, skipping down the stairs and heading to one of the castle towers with the boy hot on her heels.

Climbing the tower to its summit, it seems unlikely that she is going to shake her pursuer, so deciding on a reckless stunt she climbs the turret and jumps off, holding onto a string of bunting as it takes her across the spanning gap between the castle walls and airship, to land in the safety of the awning over the musicians on the ship. She runs through them, disrupting the performance slightly and knocks over a woman who prevents the boy from pursuit with her boisterous attitude. Taking this opportunity to escape, she moves further into the depths of the theatre ship.
