Reno

From Final Fantasy - Wiki on Neoseeker

Reno is a non-playable character in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII. Despite his laid-back attitude and messy appearance, Reno takes great pride in being a member of the Turks, though he is quite unprofessional about it. He is good friends with Rude, and is the only one who can get the bald Turk to socialize. Reno has an unusual speech pattern in Japanese, speaking in a drawling manner and ending each sentence with the phrase "zoto" or simply "to" - something that can not be translated into English.

Final Fantasy VII

As a member of the Turks, Reno is the first to be seen in the game, arriving at Aeris’ church to take her back to Shinra HQ. After the first boss battle with Reno, he manages to set off the bomb that collapses Midgar’s Sector 7 pillar, escaping on the helicopter.

Upon first meeting Elena, she remarks that she has been promoted due to the actions of the party, having left him in a weakened state. He later appears in Gongaga for another battle, but is again forced to flee.

The crew later finds him and the other Turks relaxing in Wutai, and after Elena and Yuffie get kidnapped by Don Corneo, he agrees to a temporary peace with Cloud’s party.

Should the party travel to the sunken Gelnika, they may also find Reno here with his partner Rude, and will engage him in yet another boss fight.

Reno is found once again in the subway tunnels below Midgar, along with Rude and Elena. He remarks that they are not up for fighting regardless of their orders, and the player has the option of fighting them or leaving them alone.

Boss Battles

Midgar Pillar

This is the first of many encounters against the Turks, this one taking place above Sector 7 in Midgar.

Level HP MP ATK DEF M PWR M DEF DEX EVA AP EXP Gil
17 1000 0 32 52 20 62 50 6 60 660 550

No Damage: Gravity

Half Damage: Lightning

Attacks: Electro-Mag Rod, Short Staff, Pyramid

Protected Against: Death, Confusion, Silence, Frog, Small, Slowly Stone, Petrify, Death Sentence, Manipulate, Berserk, Paralyze

Drop: Ether

STRATEGY

Reno is only dangerous in one move - Pyramid (10HP). If all three of your characters are trapped within the Pyramid, you lose the battle and it's Game Over. To get them out of the Pyramid, just hit your own character. Otherwise his attacks are nothing to worry about. His HP is only a 1000 so have Cloud and Barret attack him, while Tifa casts Fire.

Gongaga

Reno and Rude are encountered as a boss battle when the party enters Gongaga.

Level HP MP ATK DEF M PWR M DEF DEX EVA AP EXP Gil
22 2000 80 35 66 35 164 69 1 60 660 1500

No Damage: Gravity

Attacks: Short Staff, Electroprod, Turk Light

Protected Against: Death, Confusion, Silence, Frog, Small, Slowly Stone, Petrify, Death Sentence, Manipulate, Berserk, Paralyze

Drop: Fairy Bangle

STRATEGY Protect against fire magic before entering the battle, and make sure Aeris is in your party (preferably with a full Limit Break bar). Focus first on defeating Rude because he will heal any damage. Use Aeris' Seal Evil to paralyze both Reno and Rude, and start slashing away.

Gelnika

This is an optional battle that takes place during the side quest Gelnika.

Level HP MP ATK DEF M PWR M DEF DEX EVA AP EXP Gil
42 15000 230 100 100 85 96 85 12 300 5000 4000

No Damage: Gravity

Attacks: Short Staff, Electroprod 2, Neo Turk Light

Protected Against: Death, Sleep, Confusion, Silence, Frog, Small, Slowly Stone, Petrify, Death Sentence, Manipulate, Berserk, Paralyze

Steal: Tough Ring

STRATEGY

Normally, the Turks haven't proved much of a problem for you, however you need to keep your wits with you in this battle. Reno's magic spells can easily ruin your party and force you to waste turns on defensive moves instead of offensive attacks or spells. Rude's physical attacks are deadly. Make sure you heal your party at least every two turns and watch out for "Neo Turk Light" which is a spell that confuses one of your characters. An annoying battle, to say the least, but worth it.

Reno, Rude, & Elena

During the storyline in the underground Midgar, you will once again run into the Turks. You have the option of fighting them, or saying you don’t feel like fighting. It doesn’t affect anything in the storyline, so you can make either choice.

Level HP MP ATK DEF M PWR M DEF DEX EVA AP EXP Gil
50 25000 200 100 120 105 106 80 5 450 4500 3000

Absorbs: Lightning

No Damage: Gravity

Attacks: Short Staff, Electroprod, Turk Light

Protected Against: Death, Sleep, Confusion, Silence, Frog, Small, Slowly Stone, Petrify, Death Sentence, Manipulate, Berserk, Paralyze

Drop: Elixir

Steal: Tough Ring

STRATEGY

Elena is nothing note worthy and is a souped up soldier. She'll spend most of the battle throwing grenades. Now, the great thing about this battle is that depleting one of the Turks HP will mean they all run off. They all have a HP of roughly 25,000. Having gotten this far, the strategy of defeating them is rather obvious. One thing to note is that they each absorb an element. Reno is healed by Ice attacks, Rude by fire attacks, and Elena by lightning attacks.

Note: Like last time, if Tifa is in your party, Rude will not attack her unless the other party members are KO'd. Even so, there is a two in three chance that he will hesitate instead of attacking her. Again, if he does attack her, it is only with Shoulder Attack.

Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core

When the Genesis clones attack Midgar, Zack Fair runs into Cissnei mid-battle. When he approaches to help, Reno stops him, claiming the area to be the Turks’ turf. He reports to Tseng that there are enemies throughout Midgar before continuing on his way.

Reno is later seen with Rude in the helicopter as part of the search for the escapees, Zack and Cloud. Reno is the one to announce that Tseng has Aerith’s unsent letters to deliver to Zack.

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children

Reno first appears when Cloud arrives at Healin Lodge in search of Rufus Shinra. Anticipating Reno’s attack, Cloud deflects his baton and sidesteps him, causing Reno to be locked out of the inn. In the end, Reno and Rude no longer hold any grudges against AVALANCHE, and instead work with them to defeat Kadaj's gang. Reno and Rude largely serve as "comic relief", particularly in their fight with Loz and Yazoo.

Reno shows up later at the end of a tunnel with Rude preparing explosives for Loz and Yazoo as they follow Cloud. The explosion is seen at a distance, leaving the viewer to wonder the fate of the two Turks. However, they appear again at the end of the film, seemingly unharmed, to witness Rufus’ cure of Geostigma.
