Sabin Rene Figaro is one of the main playable characters of Final Fantasy VI. Sabin is Edgar's twin brother who left his royal bloodline behind and became a martial arts master. Sabin and Edgar had to decide which one of them took the throne of Figaro once their father passed away, but neither one of them wanted it. Edgar knowing this, sabotaged a coin toss and in the end gave his brother the better deal and living a stress free life. Sabin leaves the kingdom and trains with the renown master of Martial Arts, Duncan. It doesn't take long until Sabin became Duncan's top student, and became even close to surpassing him. Duncan's son, Vargas became jealous seeing how Sabin was the perfect specimen in terms of intelligence, skill, and strength. Vargas feared that Sabin would succeed his father and become the next dojo master, but Sabin knew Duncan better, and knew he would never chose him over his only son.

Vargas becoming enraged one day, attempts to kill Duncan, and gives off the illusion so. When Sabin finds this out, he becomes infuriated and follows Vargas into the trails of Mt. Kolts and confronts him. Sabin also encounters his brother Edgar, alongside Locke and Terra who were on their way to the Returners hideout, while he was in his search for Vargas. They manage to locate him, however Vargas proves to be too much of a challenge for the party, but not Sabin. Sabin takes out Vargas and explains to him how Duncan never had any intentions of making him (Sabin) the Dojo master. After Vargas' defeat, Sabin agrees to accompany his brother Edgar to the Returners hideout.

Sabin is a powerhouse during combat. Being a monk, he doesn't need many weapons and is more than apt to cause heavy damage with just his fists. His special attack, Blitz, allows for the user to input different button combinations, in order for Sabin to execute his special Blitz attack. Each Blitz Technique has a different button combination.
