Shadow is one of the main playable characters of Final Fantasy VI. Shadow is a mercenary assassin that will do any dirty work for money. He is heartless and a man of few words. However when he does speak, it's usually to send a chill down your spine. Shadow specializes in knives, shurikens, and one handed swords in order to do damage. On top of that he has the special ability to throw any items from your inventory at the enemy and cause massive damage. Shadow is also accompanied by his loyal dog, Interceptor, at all times. During battle, Shadow has the Interceptor effect on him at all times, in which any damage caused to Shadow, has a 50% chance to trigger Interceptor and negate the damage, and an extra 20% chance for Interceptor to counterattack. Early in the game, Shadow will be dealing over 2,000 damage with Interceptor when your strongest attack would normally deal around 600 damage.

Shadow's real name is Clyde Arrowny. A long time ago, Clyde and his best friend Baram were two notoriously known thieves that went under the alias Shadow. One day when the two were pulling off a heist worthy of 1 million GP, the authorities caught up to them sooner than they thought. Baram gets injured in their getaway and begs for Clyde to kill him so that he can regain his dignity before the authorities capture him. Clyde doesn't have it in him to kill his friend, but also doesn't have the power to help him, so he flees as far away as he can. He eventually ends up in the town of Thamasa where he meets a woman and fathers a daughter who goes by the name of Relm.

Shadow is still not able to hide his past and feeling ashamed by it, puts on the dark assassin attire and flees from Thamasa without any notice to his wife or daughter. Their dog, Interceptor, a puppy at the time, follows Clyde. Alongside his uniform, Clyde also abandons his identity, past, and emotions as he travels from place to place, gaining notoriety as one of the most heartless sword-for-hire.

Shadow's past is revealed via his dream sequences randomly at Inns if he is in your party.
