Terra Branford is the main playable protagonist of Final Fantasy VI. She is the initial character when you start the game, and the majority of the first portion of Final Fantasy VI revolves around her. Terra also appears as one of the Warriors of Light in Dissidia.

When you first meet Terra, she is under a mind control device placed upon her by Kefka and the Empire, so she could be controlled.

As a young girl, Terra was the daughter of the Esper, Maduin, and the Human Female, Madonna. She was born in the Land of Espers, however was caught during the Elder's exile spell alongside Maduin, Madonna and the rest of the Empire, during their raid. Ending up on the other side of the Esper gate, Terra was at Emperor Gestahl's power. Gestahl strikes her mother down, and takes her and Maduin back to the Empire's castle. As Maduin is experimented on, so is Terra, since the Empire knows she is a half bred Esper. 18 years later, Terra encounters the Esper, Valigarmanda in the Narshean Caves, and the mind control device placed upon her is broken, and she manages to make her escape with the help of a thief named Locke Cole.

Terra finds out she is a half Esper, during her opposition with the Empire, and when she sides with the Returners. At first, the shock was too much to handle for her, and she went berserk, flying aimlessly until she passed out from exhaustion. She lands in Zozo, but is taken care of by Ramuh until the Returners obtain the necessary items to restore her. When they do, Terra comes to terms and accepts what she is, with the help of her father's Magicite, and obtains the power to go into Trance. When in Trance, Terra's power and stats obtain a massive stat boost for a limited amount of time.
