Tifa Lockhart is one of the main protagonists of the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII. A childhood friend of Cloud Strife, she is instrumental in getting him to join AVALANCHE and reconstructing his memories. Tifa's personality is kind and nurturing, but her shyness is what keeps her from truly opening up to Cloud.
Compilation AppearancesMidgar and AVALANCHE's secret base. When Cloud starts to leave, Tifa reminds him of the promise he made to her. Nibelheim. Cloud announces that he will be leaving town to join SOLDIER, and Tifa asks him to promise to return if she's ever in a bind. After some prodding, he makes the promise. Remembering this, Cloud agrees to stay as a member of AVALANCHE.
Tifa then joins in the next mission to blow up the Sector 5 Reactor. However, President Shinra anticipates the attack, unleashing Air Buster on the party. Cloud becomes separated from the group and meets up with Aeris Gainsborough. They later see Tifa being carted off to Wall Market and assume she has been kidnapped by Don Corneo. They manage to make their way into Corneo's mansion and find that Tifa intentionally came to question Corneo on the plans of Shinra.
When Corneo admits that Shinra is planning to collapse the Sector 7 pillar, crushing AVALANCHE and the rest of the inhabitants. Tifa and Cloud make their way to the top of the pillar, but are unable to prevent Reno from pushing the button. In the ensuing chaos, Aeris is kidnapped and Barret, Tifa, and Cloud are forced to make a daring escape. The party heads to Shinra HQ to rescue Aeris and is imprisoned in the process. When the party is freed, they make their way up to the President's office to find him murdered. Tifa immediately recognizes the Masamune, and Cloud confirms it as Sephiroth's. The party flees to Kalm where Cloud recounts the events that happened in Nibelheim five years prior.
When the party reaches Nibelheim on their journey, the town seems unchanged and even Cloud's and Tifa's houses remain. The residents claim that Nibelheim was ever burnt down, nor do they recognize Cloud or Tifa. The houses are filled with strangers and mysterious black-cloaked figures. The party eventually finds Sephiroth in the Shinra Mansion's basement, who mentions the Reunion.
At the Northern Crater, Sephiroth reveals the truth about Cloud's memories, against the behest of Tifa. Cloud, weakened by Sephiroth's words, hands over the Black Materia to Sephiroth who uses it to summon Meteor. Tifa and the rest of the party escape with Rufus Shinra and Hojo on the Highwind. Tifa falls into a week-long coma, and Tifa and Barret are brought back to Junon and locked away. When Tifa awakens, Barret opens the blinds to show her that Meteor has been summoned and is ominously hanging in the sky. Rufus reveals that he will have Tifa and Barret executed as a means to calm the people during the crisis.
Scarlet ecstatically places Tifa in the gas chamber, but when Sapphire WEAPON attacks, Tifa manages to break free and escape. Being pursued by Scarlet and some MPs, Tifa makes her way to the end of the Sister Ray where she and Scarlet engage in a slapping match. As the duel comes to an end, the Highwind flies overhead dangling a rope. Tifa leaps from the Sister Ray, catching the end of the rope and the party escapes to safety.
Tifa becomes the leader of the party in Cloud's absence. They eventually reunite with him in Mideel, only to find him in a near-comatose state, suffering from mako poisoning. Tifa chooses to stay with Cloud while the rest of the party hunts down the Huge Materia. When the party returns to visit Cloud, Mideel is attacked by Diamond WEAPON forcing Cid's party to flee. Tifa pushes Cloud, who is bound to a wheelchair, out of the clinic. However, the Lifestream bursts through the ground, and both Tifa and Cloud plummet into the Lifestream below.
Entering Cloud's subconscious, Tifa helps him piece together his memories and return him to his true self. Although his memories of him before he was a SOLDIER were true, Cloud was never the 1st Class SOLDIER, but only a Shinra infantryman. It was Zack Fair who was the true 1st Class SOLDIER that befriended and challenged Sephiroth at the Nibelheim Reactor. Cloud traveled to the Nibelheim Investigation as one of the two MPs that accompanied Sephiroth. Shameful and embarrassed about never making 1st Class SOLDIER, Cloud hid his face from Tifa under his Shinra helmet. When Sephiroth had burned the town of Nibelheim, Cloud ran to the reactor to find both Tifa and Zack seriously injured by Sephiroth. Cloud had run into the reactor, stabbing Sephiroth with Zack's Buster Sword. Sephiroth struck back at Cloud, seriously wounding him. Cloud was unwilling to give up, and threw Sephiroth into a Mako pit inside the Reactor.Events from Tifa's childhood are conveyed through Cloud's memories. Although they lived next door to each other, Tifa and Cloud weren't very close. When she was eight years old, her mother died, leaving Tifa to believe that her mother had gone to Mt. Nibel.
Upon their return, Cloud apologizes to the party, and insists that they each find their reason for fighting before returning. The party departs, leaving behind Tifa and Cloud, who have nowhere to go. Although the scene differs depending upon the player's actions throughout the game, Tifa and Cloud may admit that they had heard each other's voices in the Lifestream. Tifa tells him that there are other ways without words to show someone that you care about them. The scene then shifts to dawn, where Tifa sleeps with her head on Cloud's shoulder. When Tifa and Cloud return to the airship, the rest of the party joins the journey to the final battle with Sephiroth. The party travels back to the Northern Crater and are forced to fight Sephiroth in his inhuman forms.
The party watches as Holy fights Meteor, but realize that it is too late. Aeris summons the Lifestream to fight Meteor and save the planet.

When Zack and the others arrive in Nibelheim, Tifa, at fifteen years old, approaches Zack and asks if they are the SOLDIERs that Shinra has sent. She attempts to say more, but runs off instead. Later, she joins the party as the guide to the reactor. Tifa leads them to the reactor, but is forced to remain outside, being prevented entry by Cloud who has hidden his identity. When they are attacked by Genesis copies, Cloud protects her, but is injured in the process. She carries him down the mountain back to the village where he remains under Zack’s care.
Later, during Sephiroth's hideout in the Shinra Mansion basement, Tifa e-mails Zack indicating that she dreams of having a blonde-haired SOLDIER to protect her.
When Sephiroth burns the town, Tifa takes after him in anger. Just outside the reactor, she finds her father, who dies before her eyes. She takes up the Masamune seeking revenge, but is easily cut down by Sephiroth. When Zack arrives, she pulls away, whispering her hatred of all things Shinra. Cloud arrives, sans helmet, and sets Tifa comfortably aside before confronting Sephiroth. (In the original game, a letter would indicate that Zangan, Tifa's martial arts instructor, had removed her from the reactor and taken her to Midgar.)
Tifa is the center of a portion of the novella called Case of Tifa. After the events of the original game, Tifa, Cloud, Barret, and Marlene rebuild 7th Heaven in Edge. After Barret leaves and finding Denzel, the four settle into a pseudo-family life, living above the bar. Although they are initially happy, Cloud becomes depressed over the past events and becomes distant from his family. Tifa asks a half-asleep Cloud if he loves her, but when he doesn’t answer, she asks if he loves Marlene instead, indicating that she still is unsure of how to properly communicate with Cloud. Eventually, Cloud would leave the bar with a smile, leaving Tifa to believe that everything would be alright. However, after Cloud hasn’t returned in some time, Tifa is left to doubt her assessment of the situation.

Set two years after the original, Tifa hasn't seen Cloud in some time, leaving her to tend to the bar and the children alone. Eventually, Tifa and Marlene make their way to Aeris' church to find that Cloud has been living there alone, silently succumbing to Geostigma. Tifa and Marlene agree to await Cloud's return, but instead Loz happens upon them during his search for Jenova. Tifa and Loz engage in a hand-to-hand battle, but Tifa is eventually overcome and Marlene is kidnapped.
When Cloud returns, he finds Tifa unconscious and pulls her into his arms. After a brief conversation, both Tifa and Cloud pass out. They are brought back to the bar by Reno and Rude. When Tifa wakes up, she gently queries Cloud about his Geostigma, expressing her disappointment that he kept it secret. Reno and Rude return, telling them that the children are being held at the Forgotten City. After he asks the Turks to go, Tifa confronts Cloud about his fears and misgivings, eventually motivating him to track down the children himself.
Later, among the chaos at the center of Edge, Tifa finds Denzel under the Remnants' control. When Bahamut SIN attacks, she is temporarily knocked unconscious. When she wakes up, the members of AVALANCHE have returned to help fight the summon. Cloud, too, returns, indicating to Tifa that he has forgiven himself and is ready to move on. During the battle, each member of the party gives Cloud a lift, the final (living person) being Tifa who tells him that there is no giving up.
Tifa later watches from the Shera with the rest of the party as Cloud fights Kadaj and later Sephiroth. When Cloud is returned to the church from the Lifestream, he exchanges a smile with Tifa. She encourages Denzel to take Cloud's hand and be healed of Geostigma.
