You need some way of getting off the floating continent, right? You also need some way to access all those lands across the seas! So how would you be able to do that without Vehicles? You wouldn't, which is why this game has a fair amount of vehicles throughout the game, that can be used for many different things, whether you want speed, a portable home, or just a feathery friend.

Cid's Airship
A simple flying air craft that you borrow from Cid. It, like any other Airship, can fly over water, but that's just about it. You use it in order to reach the sealed cave, across a small amount of water. Later on in the story, this ship is destroyed in a collision with a giant bolder blocking the way to Nelv Valley.
Folding Canoe
You obtain the Folding Canoe after you save Castle Sasune and Kazus from the Djinn's curse. For the first half of the game, it is utterly useless, but when you reach the second half, the Folding Canoe is used to cross shallow water. Although that's all it's really good for.
Chocobos
Technically not a vehicle, Chocobos are flightless yellow birds. They are fast on land and easy to capture. Living only in the Chocobo Woods and Gyhsal, Chocobos can be found in three different areas on the floating continent. Although you will mostly see the smaller, land travelling Chocobos, if you use Gyhsal greens on an area that smells like chocobo, it is very likely that a Fat Chocobo will appear. Fat Chocobo's make their first appearance in this game, and are used to store items.
Note: Gyhsal Chocobos cannot be caught by you, only wild Chocobos that live in the Chocobo Woods may be captured.
The Enterprise
The Enterprise is a fine sea ship, owned by Vikings. When you calm the Nepto Dragon, the Viking Boss will be so pleased, that he will give you his last remaining ship, which is, of course, The Enterprise. For a while, this ship is only useful as a sea ship, but eventually, as you progress along in the story, Cid will transform it into a second airship. But this time, the ship can only land in the water.
Much like the first one, this Ship will be destroyed, but this time, it is destroyed by a cannon shot.
Nautilus
The Nautilus is a fine aircraft that can travel at amazing speeds, not being affected by even the fastest and toughest winds. It is a thank you present from King Alus, for helping him rid his kingdom of the menace which controlled his father. Later on in the game, the Nautilus will be allowed to submerge, thus it shall be an aircraft/submarine. Very useful, you can discover a few secret caverns with this ship.
The Invincible
The Invincible, the finest of all Aircrafts. She may not be fast, and she may not be able to submerge, but she is a beauty. Lost for many many years, when you finally uncover this glorious ship, you will have to be taught how to use it by Unei. It has four beds for your team to rest, free of charge, and an area to call forth a fat chocobo. It has three different items that you can use as shops, to purchase Weapons, Armor, and Magic. Talk about your mobile home! This ship has just about the equivalent of a village. It won't even land when you get off, instead, it shall continue to hover above the ground, waiting for your return.
