Strategy

Yiazmat has over 50 million HP, so expect this battle to take a long time. The good news is you can leave the battle at any time, save and restore at a save crystal, and return, and Yiazmat will have the same amount of HP he did when you left him. However, if you stay away too long, he will start to heal himself, so return quickly. Also note that you’ll have to cast Dispel on him each time you reenter the battle. There is an indicator in the top right of the battlefield screen that tells you how many times you’ve left the battle, but it means nothing other than that. It’s advisable to have the strongest weapons and armor before going into this battle to give yourself the best chance. If you can equip accessories to protect against Petrify, Sap, and Stop, do so. And place in your top gambits the following abilities: to cure Petrify, Sap, and Stop (either items or Esuna), Raise, and Curaja. Also, you can place a gambit for Cura on an ally with HP below 60%. It’s important to stay healed because Yiazmat’s attacks can be deadly.

When you first engage Yiazmat, have your support character cast Protectga, Hastega, Shellga, and Bubble on your party. Have a second character immediately cast Dispel and Expose. You should notice immediately that Yiazmat’s HP indicator is actually 50 bars. His attacks include Stone Breath, Cyclone, White Breath, and regular physical attacks. Also, the area is flooded with traps so be careful. Place your front-line character under Decoy to make the healing less frantic. Use physical attacks with your strongest character, and use the other two to heal, and either cast dark-based magick or use physical attacks when applicable. When Yiazmat’s HP drops below 50%, the tactics of battle will change, so take the time to leave the battle and go to a save crystal.

Halfway through the battle, Yiazmat’s defense will increase and it will use Rake, which may instantly KO a party member. He will Death Strike, which he may chain, and may also kill a character. Death Strike, however, delays any moves that aren’t a standard attack, so while Yiazmat is casting Death Strike, have a character that is not being targeted cast Arise on the targeted character, and it will make it go a little more smoothly.

When Yiazmat’s health falls to about 9 or 10 bars, he will use Growing Threat to double its level, which serves to raise his defense and strength. At this point, you may want to leave the area and visit a save crystal (you’ll probably be doing this more now) because the battle is going to get incredibly tough. You can continue your strategy if you find it’s working, or you may have to use Decoy and Reverse on your front-line fighter.

When Yiazmat has around 3 or 4 bars, he will cast Reflectga on your party. Dispel it so that you don’t accidentally heal Yiazmat. Continue your strategy, and stay healthy, until Yiazmat finally falls.

Description

One Deity among Dragons, One great Wyrm to rule all Wyrms of the World, by the Creator Himself created.

Legend says it is an Anima, Guardian to a Sacred Blade.

Though most sacred among its Kind, its great Power drove it to Madness, and in the End, it became a Threat to its own Creator.

His Master was killed by Yiazmat, robbing Montblanc of all Joy in Life, and he would have Revenge.
