Lightning Dodger is one of the more challenging side quests of Final Fantasy X. In the Thunder Plains, you can win valuable prizes for avoiding the lightning strikes. Press the X button when the screen flashes white to dodge the impending lightning bolt. You can look up your progress in a book on the table inside the Travel Agency. The prizes are based on the consecutive number of bolts you dodge:

Bolts Dodged
Prize
5
2 X-Potions
10
2 Mega-Potions
20
2 MP Spheres
50
3 Strength Spheres
100
3 MP Spheres
150
4 Megalixirs
200
Venus Sigil

You can pick up your prize in a chest outside the Travel Agency. While getting struck will deplete HP from your characters, you can actually get prizes for being struck consecutive times as well:

Times Struck
Prize
30
Ether
80
Elixir

Strategy[edit]

Equip one of your characters with an item that has the No Encounters ability. Then proceed to the north section of Thunder Plains. There is a section where the lightning strikes more often near the right-hand fork (see map below). This will make it easier to keep your concentration up. Some people find it helpful to mute or lower the volume. Make sure you have no distractions around and if there are people, make sure they no not to bother you for a while! You can NOT leave the area or save because you will lose your progress. This means that you must take about 30-40 minutes of your time to do this side-quest. The best place to dodge lightning is where there are three bolt signs as the thunder is more frequent in these areas (see maps below). You want to make sure that the screen is the only thing you are focused on. It may take you a couple tries, but just remain calm and know that you can do it! (As a side note, try to keep track of how many bolts you dodge. You don’t want to return to the Travel Agency to find you only had 199!)
